Regardless of whether the pills initially help you lose weight or not, unless you bring about real change in your lifestyle, specifically diet and exercise, you will never keep the weight that you lost off for good. Skip the fad diets, skip the weight loss pills, and stick to the "eat less, move more" motto.

In addition to what Ben said (he's a smart cookie) DO NOT TAKE EPHEDRINE WITHOUT CONSULTING A PHYSICIAN FIRST.

If you are hypertensive, have almost any kind of heart problem, hypertension, closed-angle glaucoma (which you may not even know you have), are taking antidepressants, are put under with halogenated anesthesia, etc., ephedrine can have terrible side-effects, including death.

Of course, most responsible physicians will probably tell you not to take it anyway, but at least if you get a clean bill of health first you know your chances of having an adverse reaction are much slimmer.

You should totally try Kälteen bars.

They're these weird Sweedish nutrition bars my mom uses to lose weight.

Yeah, you know, there's some weird ingredient in them that's not legal in the U.S. Yet.

It burns carbs.... It just burns up all your carbs.

Ephedrine is a powerful substance from an herb used by Chinese Medicine for the past 2000 years. Having tested this herb extensively, the Chinese have come to a very clear understanding about the use of ephedra and what it is good for.

As an intern in a Traditional Chinese medical clinic I can tell you a few things about it's use in Chinese Medicine that might change your mind about using it: This herb is NEVER used for more than a few days, because of the potential for negative side effects (see Skifan08's post above). Never used on people with hypertension and coronary issues, and other disorders related to high metabolism, etc. ONLY used on people who need their airways opened during an intense viral cold or flu of a specific type who do not have the above mentioned issues. So far, I have not found a case where I needed to use ephedra, there has always been a safe alternative.

No form of Ephedra is safe to use for more than a few days. The diuretic and metabolic properties just aren't worth the potential side effects.

I highly recommend you listen to other posters here. Find a safer alternative.

Don't take it. Just use portion control and exercise.

    Hahaha...Love Mean Girls.

Even if these fads work, there's a difference between being healthier and weight loss. Dramatic weight loss in a short period could be detrimental to your health. To promote my health, I would: eat healthier foods, exercise to my capacities, drink more water, sleep more, participate in meaningful activities, and maybe find a partner and get laid more (safely). ;)

Honestly, if you're just starting out with lifting weights, don't bother. Stuff like ephedrine is ideally for experienced people that have been lifting for a while, and need an occasional boost to overcome a plateau or lose a few pounds.

If you need to lose more than 5 lbs, forget it. Just stick with a solid meal plan and exercise accordingly. Keep in mind that supplements are exactly that.. supplements. They're not a substitute for proper diet and exercise. If you think otherwise, then you'll probably wind up dead like this guy.
