So guys with low masculine voices will cheat, but guys with feminine high pitched voices are faithful? Really.

Anyone have any real life experience that supports this theory?

Because I bet there are some nelly boys on here who cheat and cheat and cheat.

I have a pretty deep voice and have never cheated on anyone in my life. I would have to say most of my exes had a higher pitched voice and most of those exes became exes because they cheated. I wonder if, in the gay world, it's the exact opposite?

I'm not quite so sure about the quality and integrity of the research study cited in the article.

I think that men who think more and talk more about cheating than the mean average...are more likely to cheat. But, that's just a theory, ya know!

    ;-)

This idea of aural sex is pretty interesting. Here is the original article. After reading the abstract, my newly learned word of the day is cuckoldry.

Abstract: "Sexual infidelity can be costly to members of both the extra-pair and the paired couple. Thus, detecting infidelity risk is potentially adaptive if it aids in avoiding cuckoldry or loss of parental and relationship investment. Among men, testosterone is inversely related to voice pitch, relationship and offspring investment, and is positively related to the pursuit of short-term relationships, including extra-pair sex. Among women, estrogen is positively related to voice pitch, attractiveness, and the likelihood of extra-pair involvement. Although prior work has demonstrated a positive relationship between men's testosterone levels and infidelity, this study is the first to investigate attributions of infidelity as a function of sexual dimorphism in male and female voices. We found that men attributed high infidelity risk to feminized women's voices, but not significantly more often than did women. Women attributed high infidelity risk to masculinized men's voices at significantly higher rates than did men. These data suggest that voice pitch is used as an indicator of sexual strategy in addition to underlying mate value. The aforementioned attributions may be adaptive if they prevent cuckoldry and/or loss of parental and relationship investment via avoidance of partners who may be more likely to be unfaithful."

Soon an evaluation of ones "hand lines" will yield whether your partner will cheat or not

yeah...I thought it would be fun to discuss. icon_biggrin.gif

But as the article does say (if there is some truth to it) that they also found that there are many other aspects to consider as well.

It does make sense to me that there may be a correlation with people that are just out of control horny all of the time...the people that never get enough.. may possibly have to do with testosterone levels. I also found it interesting in regards to higher testosterone levels reducing immunity. And people that have high testosterone levels and being healthy at the same time being more attractive.

I also wonder if people that biologically have lower testosterone levels, have this in order to reduce risks of disease in their genetics.

Science rarely "proves" anything but research usually shows correlation and statistical probability. Rarely, or perhaps never can any study truely control for every variable hence proof is a relative term.

This article only said that people PERCEIVED the men with low voices and the women with high voices to be cheaters.. not that it actually happens that way

Exactly. You get +10 for reading comprehension skills. The article:

They had the participants rate the attractiveness of each pair of voices, and then asked them how likely they thought it would be for that person to be a cheater. The ladies associated the lower-pitched male voices with cheating, while the guys associated the higher-pitched female voices with cheating. The males weren't able to tell if another man was likely to stray based on his voice, though.

Voice pitch is related to sex hormone levels, the researchers said. The more testosterone a male has, the lower his voice...

Key words: "thought" and "associated." I also find it interesting that the males found no cheating association regarding the voices of other males. WHEW! I have a deep voice.

But it also says a deep male voice is a function of testosterone. My voice is deep, my testosterone low. Though maybe levels were higher when my voice was maturing in my teens, I dunno. The rest of my puny body sure showed no signs of plentiful testosterone when I was growing up, unless maturing young with a heavy beard and a huge dick is a sign. icon_biggrin.gif

In any case, now women reading this will be wary of men with deep voices. I wonder if the article author "Jennifer Welsh" is a pseudonym for a straight guy with a Truman Capote voice?

this is misleading. its not that people with lower voices cheat more, its that people PERCEIVE lower voices with cheating. this study doesnt actually match voice pitch with amount of cheating
