    why arent you eating protein?

stay low on carbs, watch the fat intake, and burn more calories than you are taking in. meaning.. be active. do at least 45 mins of cardio a day, and mix it up by doing stuff like - 15 mins of bike, 15 mins on elliptical, 15 mins on the treadmill.. that sort of thing. you'll keep your body guessing.

or get the P90X system. thats a 90 day system, but everyone i've ever known to do it has gotten pretty stellar results.

I'm just gonna list all the stuff that I know WORK and that people would agree with me.

To lose weight you need both of these elements, diet AND exercise.

    - It's definitely not eating less but rather eating right!

    - Eat 6 meals a day to accelerate your metabolism (breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, and evening snack). Eating once or twice a day is BAD for you because you body will enter a starvation mode, saving fat for use later, hence the weight.

    - Eat small meals, around 300-500 calories for all meals.

    - Avoid eating visible fatty food such as fried anything, bacon, pizza, etc (pretty much junk/fast food)

    - Avoid sweet stuff that has load of sugar (table sugar, syrup, corn syrup, etc) because even though it is not fat, it is like premium fuel of energy to you body. Your body would use sugar for energy before it uses fat, hence the stored fat.

    - Avoid eating too much carbs such as rice, potatoes, etc (sugar in a nutshell) especially late at night.

    - Drink plenty of water. This boost your liver function to transfer food into energy, getting rid of stored fat.

    - Avoid drinking alcohol, because it is treated as poison and your liver must get rid of it before doing other functions such as burning fat.

    - Eat more healthy food such as yogurt, veggies, and fruits to fill you up instead of junk/fast food.

    - Eat moderate amount of good fat (unsaturated fat) found in fish, cereal, olived oil etc. This helps lower cholesterol, better joint health, better skin texture and help burn fat, hence even faster metabolism!

    - Do cardio regularly at least 3 times a week, getting your heart rate high

    - Try to build muscle through weight training because muscle burns fat, even when you sleep, hence faster metabolism.

Feel free to add and enlighten my knowledge guys. =D

Why do you need to lose it fast? It is pretty likely that if you lose weight by crash dieting, you will gain it back. Why not just make a lifestyle choice and lose it the healthy way??

Looks like some good advice here.
I'd like to add to your list the possibility of what you might be able to learn from a coach who has nutrition and fitness/strength training experience...i know of a few and think that that type of background could help you get to your goals faster...
Nevertheless, they may tell you that a really big weight drop in 3 months isn't the ideal way to go about it.

Good luck and keep us all posted, buddy!

goodluck man! i can say that even without the exercise a good diet will get rid of some weight, i lost 50lbs, went from 200 to 150, just dieting and eating healthy, i sure if i had exercised it wouldve gone a lot faster and gained the muscle i have now, baby steps! dont get discouraged icon_smile.gif you can do it!

There aren't really tricks to not feeling self-conscious. You just have to not care what people think of you. No one gives a crap what you do in the gym, as long as it doesn't interfere with them. No one sits at the gym and thinks "look at THAT guy, what is he doing here?" So just realize that and do it for yourself.

I had basically no muscle on my body when I started going to the gym. I was embarrassed at first being the scrawny guy lifting weights, but then I realized how stupid that was to care.

yeah, 'metabolism speed' (i call it) doesn't change abruptly. To make it go fast and burn all those fat, you gotta do it over a long period of time. Not too long though, dont worry, u'll enjoy the results along the way) On a good note, managing to change your metabolism means to change your life style, for good. I hope I make sense.

Remember to continue motivating yourself! And dont forget to take before pictures to compare to your soon-to-be-awesome ones! ;)

Keep us posted, buddy and good luck choosing gyms.

i hope i don't lose faith though i've given this a try a lot of times then get lazy or bored and stop
ill just have to motivate myself to go to the gym by thinking of the hot eye candy :p

i'd say take them pics every month and post them on here like me (although unlike u, my metabolism is too fast as I struggle to gain weight) haha, its a health/fitness site after all. This might help you build up confidence and erase some self-consciousness. There are plenty of help and motivation found here on RJ. Remember that you're doing this for yourself, not anyone else.

    Hey Rami,

I'm on the journey with you... I've got a lot more to lose but we both have heaps to gain! (like the abs some of these guys have!)

If you want to stay in touch, hit me up.

On another note - I am so happy to see the number of really helpful, supportive guys here on RJ. I have to say I wasn't expecting it, but you guys are an inspiration and I look forward to talking to more of you.

Good luck Rami - and wish me luck too!

group classes are a good way to get started with a gym routine. spin or rpm classes are pretty awesome, usually in a darkish room with loud music and glow lights which allow you get carried away and enjoying your exercise. say hi to the trainers, they are usually good people and will answer any questions you have. days off from the gym go for a long walk if you can, an hour or so, listening to podcasts or music will help the time pass by.
