How Do You Cheer Yourself Up?

Been in a bit of a depressed mood lately and just curious what other people do to pick themselves up?

I am usually pretty good at just distracting myself from it until I forget why I was depressed in the first place.

A certain cutie that I have been talking with lately helps, as long as I'm in the mood to talk.

Anyway, what is your pick me up?

What are you eating? Depression and many other mood & health related problems are related to your diet. Try eating only fruit and salads everyday. 30BananasADay.com helped me a lot. I always feel good when I only eat fruit and salads. I have to eat a lot of it, but it's doable.

I really don't suggest you emulate what I do because it's kind of destructive and embarrassing but anyway

    a) I watch the worst foreign soaps like the Dutch Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden and then I feel more misreable, then

    b) I order my favorite gelato and curl up in my bed, put on my headphones and listen to La Roux, then finally

    c) I go online and buy stuff-usually books on Amazon or random stuff like freitag bags that I will never use...

it's the worst kind of way to deal with my depression

I hang out with my friends. It always makes me happy being around being I enjoy.

If that isn't possible though, then sometimes I will go for a drive. Just drive to nowhere, blasting great music. It makes it even better if its warm and I can have my windows down.

    Depends...

If I'm depressed because I haven't reached a certain goal. I remind myself that even the smallest of steps matter to progress to where I want to be. And accomplishing those tasks helps to provide a boost.

If I'm feeling blue and I don't know why, I just try to bear with it. Golden Girls is always good for a pick-me-up.

I would say sex but that option isn't for me so I usually turn to a good book, cheesecake or a good jog. Sometimes all three and not in that order.

I try to get perspective on the situation.

Doing cardio is usually a mood booster. icon_smile.gif

It really depends on the situation. If I'm dealing with a death...nothing normally helps....however...if it is really bad...I find that listening to beautiful uplifting classical music comforting. I remember right after my best friend died, the only thing that I could listen to was classical music. I didn't feel like it was trying to make me feel better or worse...just found it comforting.

I agree. Going for a long drive in the middle of nowhere with music blasting is the best thing to cheer me up.

I tell myself how lucky and blessed I am, and I make a mental list of the many great things that have happened to me in the past--including meeting the "loves" of my life.
