    DEMOCRACY FOSTERS TYRANNY

"The same new conditions under which ... a leveling and mediocritizing of man will take place [i.e. democratization] -- a useful, industrious, variously serviceable, and clever gregarious man -- are in the highest degree suitable to give rise to exceptional men of the most dangerous and attractive qualities.

The collective impression of such future Europeans will probably be that of numerous, talkative, weak-willed, and very handy workmen who require a master, a commander, as they require their daily bread; while, therefore, the democratizing of Europe will tend to the production of a type prepared for slavery in the most subtle sense of the term: the strong man will necessarily in individual and exceptional cases, become stronger and richer than he has perhaps ever been before -- owing to his unprejudiced schooling, owing to the immense variety of practice, art, and disguise. I meant to say that the democratizing of Europe is at the same time an involuntary arrangement for the rearing of tyrants."

southbeach1500 saidYeah, stick it to the rich!

Drain money from those evil corporations!

    Take back that $44 BILLION!!!

Ooops.... the deficit this year is $1.65 Trillion.

If we did what you advocate, that would bring the deficit down to $1.604 Trillion.

Newsflash: Stop being played for a sucker by the Democrats. We are in a huge heap of trouble and we need to stop the deficit spending NOW!

If you're worried about the deficit, then surely you agree that we must raise taxes to pay for the programs our country needs and some extra to pay downt eh debt.

    Nope.

The Federal government takes in more than enough money to fulfill their Constitutional mandates.

It's all the "extras" that need to go.

That's just silly. Discretionary spending is 12% of the budget.

    Of course they are.

Our elected representatives (of BOTH parties) have plundered them for the past 30 years.

    They're done.

You're going to need someone a lot cuter and a hell of lot smarter than Paul Ryan to pull that off.

    Good luck with it though!

Earth to SB ......... and the like

If we got rid of the Bush Tax Cuts ALONE ... just that nothing else
more than seventy percent of the deficit would be gone .... cease to exist
    One fell swoop

Not since the days of the Robber Barons have we had such a disparity between the wealthiest and the middle class in this country
The top four hundred people just four hundred .... not even enough to make a percentage
The top four hundred people made more than the bottom FIFTY PERCENT

and let's guess ...... of those four hundred people ?
How many of them either benefited secondarily or directly from the trillion dollar bailout we had to do?

We've had a global shift of wealth in this country
and it's gone from the middle class to the top 2%
and there is no debating that

Now we have to decide .............. who's going to pay for it?

There's a difference between initiative and soaking the government and it's public
    Case in hand
How much did Scooter give out in tax breaks before he declared a fiscal emergency?

The negative responses to the OP's post is indicative of the privileged status in which these responders hold themselves, as if the were esteemed members of the aristocracy, of which they will never be.icon_cool.gif

And, the stone cold FACT that the Bush Tax Cuts to the wealthy did NOT help the economy over the last decade, and did NOTHING to prevent the 2007-2009 Bush recession - makes it clear that raising taxes on the rich is not only ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY in order to pay down the National Debt - it also won't hurt the economy to make the rich pay more taxes.
