    This is just unbelievable. There was a fire that killed 7 young kids in Perry County on a farm. The father was just out delivering milk while the mother was milking the cows when the kids were being killed by the fire. The parents must be devastated, and these lunatics want to make them suffer even more?

    http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/03/westboro_baptist_church_plans.htmlWestboro Baptist Church, the controversial group that just won a free speech Supreme Court case related to picketing soldiers' funerals, says it is planning to protest at the funeral for seven Perry County children who died in a fire Tuesday night.

    "I'm baffled that they would choose this," said Perry County District Attorney Charles F. Chenot, III."This is a family that’s obviously apparently Christian in their beliefs and certainly shouldn't conflict with the beliefs of the Westboro Baptist Church."

    Chenot said he will be alerting state police to the announcement, and it will mean there will be a law enforcement presence at the services, too.

    Westboro's press release says the children's death is linked to the Supreme Court case, in which a York County father sued the church after it protested and made homophobic statements about his son, a Marine killed in Iraq.

    Westboro blames society and the Perry County children's parents for their deaths in this release:

    http://media.pennlive.com/midstate_impact/other/Westboro.PDF

    A recent ruling in their favor says they can be in any public space. That means cemeteries that are open to the public, Chenot said.

    "The bottom line is that they can’t interfere with the funeral itself," he said. "They can’t block people. If they made enough noise that they overpowered the minister ... they could be cited for disorderly conduct."

    The church has threatened to picket military funerals in Perry County before, Chenot said. They did not show up to those funerals, and Chenot says he hopes that this, too, is an empty threat.

    "I suspect this is just to get attention," he said. "That’s the only reason I can think they would want to attend this funeral. This group doesn’t include soldiers or homosexuals -- the groups they are usually barking about."

    Still, a police presence will be assembled, just in case. "Will there be some vigilante justice? I hope not," Chenot said. "But I think the potential is there."

    I've wondered the same thing. Someone needs to put them out of OUR misery.
    Alternatively, the media could stop covering them, and then they'd have to go get real jobs.

    I used to live in Wichita Kansas and have faced Fred Phelps and his, "family" several times. Hitting them would only help to serve their cause and make them look like the victim. They do tend to get really pissed off if you offer them condoms though. They thing about protesting the funerals I don't understand is this. It's wrong and shouldn't happen but how come until they started protesting soldiers and not just people who died of Aid's did no one care or notice??? Even now, it's rarely mentioned that's how they started and still do it. That being said, maybe a very very large group should be organized at their home to protest their consuming air.

    How interesting that the whackjob's son is a LGBT tolerance public speaker! Nate Phelps is a good man who is speaking tolerance and love in the face of his family's rage. Good for him.

    Here are a few things that I believe:

    (Jesus speaking)
    "38And behold, it is written, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth;
    39But I say unto you, that ye shall not resist evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also;
    40And if any man will sue thee at the law and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also;
    41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
    42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn thou not away.
    43And behold it is written also, that thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy;
    44But behold I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you;
    45That ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good.
    46Therefore those things which were of old time, which were under the law, in me are all fulfilled.
    47Old things are done away, and all things have become new.
    48Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect."

    Uh, it did happen yesterday... or at least back in 1995 I believe.

    Their compound was bombed--they believe on that day "America" declared war on them and have used the incident to jusitify their protesting habits.

    I actually agree with SCOTUS. I don't agree with violence. WBC should be left alone by the media. Organize counter-protests if you want, but WE are giving them power.

    WBC is nothing but a bunch of bullies. They used to upset me greatly... even before the media got their attention on them (before the protested at military funerals). Now I pity them more than anything else; nothing they can do will surprise me (unless they act violently because they have been quite peaceful so far).

    They are prime examples of the consequences of child indocterination and abuse--but it took me years to turn my hate into pity.

    I hate to say this but hopefully soon a tornado will tear through the property of Westboro Baptist Church and completely demolish the church building. Probably than these ignorant lunatics will get the message that their hatemongering has a tremendous price to pay in the long run.

    Churches should be demonstrating love, not hate. They should be ashamed of themselves. As a Christian, I'm ashamed of them. They are dragging my good name through the mud.

    As a Christian, I find these people absolutely disgusting and an embarrassment to all people of faith. I get that they have a right to protest, but when it comes to invading the funerals of innocent families who are burying their dead and who are grieving, I think it crosses the line into a matter of harrassment --- and for that they should be arrested. Do the people who are innocent families grieving not have the right to bury their dead in peace and with dignity without having sign waving chanting crazy people outside the church or cemetery?

    Good point, but religion has always been used to manipulate others...
    this is just an extreme use of it.
