    so far this year:

my property taxes (all 3 houses), homeowner's and rental house insurance, "city sanitation" fee, health insurance co-pay, car payment, car insurance, cable/internet, credit card interest rate have ALL gone up in cost.

my ultimate boss, President obama, has eliminated my tiny cost of living increase for this AND next year.

and i don't need to comment on the cost of a gallon of unleaded gasoline....

my rental house peeps are in for an unpleasant su-prise when their leases expire in a couple of months. just to break even they are getting $50 a month rent increases.

didn't the GOP promise jobs and prosperity for all Americans when they got back into power????

    Same here...
Property value went up so taxes went up. ( No, not complaining since so many people are underwater )

If the 3 slammer in Japan: earthquake, tsunami and meltdown isn't a wakeup call that America need to working on our own infrastructure ....and not giving tax breaks to billionaires and oil companies...and increasing jobs in our country.

There was $50 million damage to Santa Cruz area harbor because of the Japan tsunami.

And THE GOP wants to cut 30% of the tsunami warning system budget?

Probably not such a hot idea after all.

But in general... we Americans have borrowed and borrowed and spent ourselves flat; if we are to survive and not collapse as a nation we need to endure no small amount if suffering and sacrifice now, by cutting spending wherever possible, living frugally, and eliminating all tax shelters.

A flat 10% tax on all income and short term capital gains for everyone making over a certain amount ($125k/yr per earner sounds like a good start).

Scrap all tax deductions for marriage and dependents and home owners and college debt holders and just go with a flat tax (those under the $125k would pay no tax beyond FICA/Social Security/Medicare).

Rebuild the Middle Class, and rebuild our nation without bankrupting it.

Yes, taxes do need to be raised on the rich in order to rebuild the great American middle class without damaging our economy.
Unfortunately, with the Repubs in control of the House there's no way that will happen.
The Repubs will block it and block it and it will never happen.
Not as long as the Repubs control the House.

...and bring up anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, anti-immigrant, and union-busting legislation designed to stir up ugly divisive "culture war" rancor.
INSTEAD of doing what they promised to do - create jobs and stay focused on the economy.

They've broken their campaign promises in record time.

Is there a movement afoot to push for this? I haven't heard anything about this since maybe Ross Perot? Is it loop-hole proof? I think this could be an issue that unites the left and right in benefit of our country.

Yes, but you and many on here won't like the source:

    http://www.freedomworks.com

    http://www.freedomworks.org/scrapthecode/reform.php

And you and many of the others on here won't like who is involved either. icon_wink.gif

Except FreedomWorks isn't interested in the middle class, just ensuring those who already claim 50% of all income get an even larger share. icon_rolleyes.gif

    See what I mean? icon_razz.gif

But it's the truth. The middle class and billionaires do not have the same interests. Even whatever wealth you've cobbled together doesn't put you in the category of having their interests.

First of all, don't use a "wink" emoticon on me. ewwwww
Secondly, if it is a tax code I feel is fair I will support it regardless of the source. I'm open minded that way.
