I know there a places such as San Francisco where there are large gay populations but are there any places where the gay population dominates and it is more common to see gay people than straight people?

Gay villages in different cities (Montreal's gay village, by example)

    Provincetown.

Provincetown is a New England town located at the extreme tip of Cape Cod in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 3,431 at the 2000 census, with an estimated 2007 population of 3,174.[2] Sometimes called "P-town",[3][4] the town is known for its beaches, harbor, artists, tourist industry, and its status as a gay village.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provincetown,_Massachusetts)

A lot of big cities will have an area with a primarily gay population. In Atlanta, it is midtown, especially around Piedmont Park. While there are plenty of straight people there, gays are everywhere and many restaurants and bars are flying gay flags outside.

It used to have higher concentrations of gay, but the better gays trickled down into towndown and Queen Anne and Bell Town. You should know this.

Thank you Jake. I would say Belltown has just as many gays among the 25+ set.

    Definitely Provincetown.

It's like the percentage of straight to gay people has reversed itself, so it's 95% gay and 5% straight. I visited it for the day and thought it was the oddest place ever; odd in a good way.

It definitely is. The rumor is that over 50% of the population in Palm Springs is gay.

Yeah, Wilton Manors, Florida, is largely gay, and surrounding areas in Fort Lauderdale and Oakland Park. South Beach less so (put movies like The Birdcage out of your mind), because these things are always shifting. But at the moment, Wilton Manors is Gay Central in mainland South Florida.

Then there's Key West. The gays revitalized it, but currently the straights are buying it up and pricing-out the gays, so it's less and less gay all the time, just like what happened to South Beach. Go now when it's still gay-friendly. In a few years it'll be Main Street Disney World.

I think Art_Deco has said his neck of the woods is pretty gay...Fort Lauderdale, FL....and South Beach...and some dinky little high-brow town nearby...Wilton Manors, as HeyBreaux just mentioned.

Vancouver, my city, is pretty gay. More importantly to me, it's gay-friendly to the point of being similar to talking about a person's hair colour --probably not something you would discriminate against. It feels pretty equal here, like we're all just living our lives and it's a non-issue. I say that "it's more important to me"' because I really do enjoy having kids and babies (and even friggin' teenagers) in the community; and sometimes gay-centric areas are sanitized of such 'things'.

Anyway, hope you find the neighbourhood that suits you. icon_smile.gif
psh move out Near langara and tell me how much you want that.

Vancouversuburban areas are almsotdevoid of gays but the downtown/kits is fuulll.

    I love it here.
