How do you respond when friends, family, or strangers ask if you're on steroids?

So... most guys on this site would probably look at my photos and know (or at least realize) that I don't have a typical steroided-out build... because I'm all natural. However, my weight can fluctuate between 140-170 pounds depending on if I'm bulking or cutting. During my bulking phases, I tend to train heavy and put on a lot of mass fast. Problem is, everyone starts asking me if I'm on a cycle, especially my parents! How do you guys react if this happens to you? Do you take it as a compliment, or get offended? I usually reply with, "I'm flattered that you think I am, but it's all me, and I'd tell you if I were."

Just this past weekend, someone I had just met accused me of doing steroids. Besides the rudeness of saying that to someone you just met, I simply said, "no, I do not take steroids." Whether he believed me or not is not my concern.

Complimented - if people think I'm bulking faster than normal I would be such a boost for my morale when I can turn around and tell them no, it's all hard work and it's finally paying off. I'm still waiting for someone to accuse me.

This reminds me of the old Jackie Mason joke where he imitates a woman alternately offended and thrilled that someone thinks she looks like a hooker.

I take it as a compliment but tell 'em "You think any dealer would take credit for this?"

Just let them think it. Big deal what others think.

If that's the truth, then that's a good reply. They'll either remain dubious or not, no way you can convince them. In today's world, lots of famous athletes have been exposed for taking steroids, despite their denials. You will always remain under suspicion.

Simply tell the truth. What else can you do? Hand them a lab report?

I used to get the question asked a lot, but considering you go into a gay bar and repeatedly you're the biggest guy there(everyone else is anorexic), they just totally assume now you're on steroids.....they don't even ask anymore. Friends I've known for years, if you ask them, they will say 'oh yeah, I'm sure he takes them'. I've never taken illegal steroids in my life, but I have taken the usual otc pro-hormones that used to be available at gnc, etc.

Funny thing is, when I go to the gym I'm surrounded by bigger guys wondering why I don't step it up a notch and take something.

170 lbs on a 5'10" frame is not huge and that size/girth should not elicit any question about steroid use. You must be dealing with highly ignorant people.

Well, that's what I was sort of implying in my OP... that a person who works out or is on Realjock reallizes that my physique is completely possible without using steroids. It's mainly the average Joe who doesn't work out that assume it isn't possible.

    It's actually a compliment

I certainly don't think I'm anywhere remotely big enough for that question but I have gotten it a few times

I laugh and say "No, I don't do steroids but thanks for thinking I look like I do"

I get this all the time! Even my doctor asked me during a physical. I'm just a big big guy who puts on muscle easily. And I work my ass off too! I just let it slide on by. I don't give a shit what someone says or believes because whatever I respond with will be/has been called being defensive and proof that it must be true.

Ignore them. Or ask them do they take something to be stupid and rude or is it all natural?

I laughed when I saw this post! I get this ALL the time, especially from men. Usually, it's from people who haven't seen me for awhile. Their comments usually consist of one of three things:

    1. Are you on steroids?
    2. Did you have work done? Are those real?
    3. How's your health?

Gotta remember - I was 200 pounds and a size 38 waist two years ago (now 160 and a 30" waist).

How do I respond? To some, a quick Fuck You usually does the trick.

With business associates (as much as I want to say fuck you), I usually just tell them I've been going to the gym and watching what I eat. These are the stereotypical business men who have lost their souls and let themselves completely go, finding solace in expensive, fat laden lunches washed down with alcohol.

With women, I have the opposite problem. Even though they know I'm gay (or maybe because of that), they love to squeeze, touch, and flirt. I always get a kick out of that.

I find no need to defend myself to anybody. Let them think what they want . .

i always reply by saying "badger milk." Then I spend as much time as I can telling em all bout badgers, how crazy they are, why it's so expensive, (ever try an milk a badger?) How badgers dont even have to train to be in incredible shape. I have fun w/ it, bout half the time I can convince em. i really want to get someone to go n2 a GNC an ask for some. A while back I conviced a buddy he needed to get oversize muffler bearings for his car, The guys at napa laughed his ass off, he's still mad as hell at me for that one icon_biggrin.gif

I'm afraid if I asked my mother this question, she'd probably beat me up.

Check, and Check. Now all I've got to do is lubricate my fan clutch slave cylinder and the tune up is done.
