Some time back, this idea was out there on the table. I like it and really want to meet many other guys here.

Either Florida or New York work for me personally, however, with many west coast guys here, what about someplace in the middle of the country like Chicago, St. Louis or wherever?

I hope this idea grows legs and becomes a reality as it would be an absolute blast!

How about even more centrally located such as Kansas City?

This idea is put out there sometimes, but rarely seems to come to fruition. I think this idea comes from the AOL and gay.com local meet ups from years ago, but those were often successful because it wasn't just some people in forums or a chat room trying to organize something as they were often something sponsored by a club or bar in their advertising in those weekly local gay magazines most larger cities have.

Good idea, but agree it would not likely come to fruition. Several months ago I started a thread to stir up interest for regional folders so guys in an area could get to know each other, which could lead to meeting up. Not much interest, so I bet there would be even more inertia for a national get together.

Might have to be regional. I'm all for SF.

Sounds like an awesome idea! I'm relatively new. And meeting some of the great guys on here in person would be great! Any location is fine...as long as we're in the US :-)

The absolute only way this will hsppen is if someone takes charge and says "this day, this place, this hour". If it's just 8 pages of "what do you think? Maybe this? Or maybe that?" this will never happen. This thread has been done a ton in the past.

OKAY SO HERE'S WHAT I'LL DO

    IF AN ONLY IF

20 MEN EMAIL ME HERE AND SAY THEY'D ATTEND:

I'll reach out to Universal and to Walt Disney World group sales and see what I can do to get pricing for rooms and theme park packages, and get a price for a shuttle to some off-site locations for a day away from the parks doing something cool like tubing in one of the nearby springs, kayaking, etc. since Central Florida has SO MUCH more to offer than just mouse-ears and roller-coasters.

    The dates would be either July 15, 16 & 17 or September 17, 18 & 19 in Orlando.

Once I have 20 confirms that they would GENUINELY be interested, I'll come up with basic prices (sans any airfare) and post here. I'll be the point person for coordinating, but people will have to be individually responsible for booking their rooms through the numbers provided and by the stated dates.

So, interested for real? Mail me here.

I'm IN! I have also sent the forum thread to a few other Floridians that might want to attend. I'm here in Orlando, so the drive is nothing to me.

We can't make those July dates, already committed to staffing an exhibitor booth at a Fort Lauderdale bicycle show to promote the SMART Ride to Key West. September in Orlando should work.

And that's right after school resumes in the US, one of the quietest and least expensive times at Disney World and all of Orlando, without swarms of little kids running around. It's only a little more than a 200-mile drive for us, all via US Interstate or Turnpike, even easier than going down to Key West from here. Downsides are it can still be hot, with daily afternoon thunderstorms possible, and you're into hurricane season, so you don't know what you'll get. We haven't had one in a few years.

It was mentioned above about the AOL gay get-togethers, and they were indeed regional. Difficult to have a single one-size-fits-all central location (and let's not forget our Canadians, though other Continents become more problematic, and likely would want their own), a place that wouldn't be distant from all the North American coasts (Atlantic, Pacific & Gulf). And then what are the attractions there? So I think we have to plan regionally, and if the first one works, then move future ones around, according to the interest & participation of the current membership.

[My RJ e-mail sent to MuscleComeBack per his request, to count us as 2 for September]

I agree that regional Meet & Greets are probably more realistically viable. Wild horses couldn't get me to Florida (let alone Disney) in the summertime. I'd go to New York though -- any excuse to go to The Big Apple. icon_lol.gif

I endorse NYC being on the list, I used to live right there, know it well. But haven't been there in a few years, and not with my partner, which I'd like to do. If I'm gonna be walking the streets, I prefer September, just like in Orlando. NYC sidewalks can get hot, too.

Other US places I'd include would be New Orleans (NEVER in the summer), SF, Seattle (a July - August place), Provincetown (another post-Labor Day September place on Cape Cod). And perhaps our Canadian members will have some recommendations from their own country.

I'm not sure the response will be very good from the left coast icon_sad.gif I don't think I can do a trip that far away. Bummer.
