I met mine in a bar in 1992. We're still together.
I was out with friends, not looking for a hookup. He was designated driver for some of his friends. It was a cruise bar in Kansas City called the Dixie Belle. As I walked past him, I saw him looking at me with a sexy smile.. He had black hair, a black moustache, and he was wearing a red shirt, black jeans, black hat with a silver band. I made a circle just to look at him again. After having some beer, I finally had the nerve to say, "Hi." (I'm shy). We visited for a few minutes and I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
When it was time for him to leave, he asked for my phone number. I had heard that before, given out my number to never hear from them.... (Look at my pic. I'm not too pretty. lol..) So, I asked this handsome man basically, "If I give you my number will you really call, or am I wasting my time?". I'll never forget the stern look on his face as he said, "If I say I'm going to call, I'll call." The stern look was one that made me think "how dare you suggest I would lie."
That was a Sunday evening. He called Monday evening and we made a date for the next Friday. After our date, he spent the night. The next morning we went to the Farmers Market on the Riverfront. We then spent the day together going to antique shops, junk shops, etc.
(The pairing was a good one... two country boys, living a simple life farming and ranching together.)
I'll never forget the details of that week. Today, I consider him not only my partner, but my best friend and my rock. October will be 19 years.
