    Transplant patient got AIDS from new kidney

    It would reinforce why us homosexuals, and out half brothers the bisexuals, should be banned from donating blood and such.

    No, something didn't happen day one of surgery. Since viral load pcr has been available we do this on transplant day 1.

    This is a unique case, with some other facts that are not publicly available.

    I dont think this is a reason to ban anyone from donating any organ. There are individual screening processes that take a few factors into account.

    However if you compare long term survival on dialysis vs long term survival (even with HIV )off dialysis.
    Off dialysis is better.

    To metta8, its not easy but its doable. A royal pain in the ass when it comes to levels of the transplant drugs.

    This patient is not the first, and probably will not be the last renal transplant patient who has HIV.
