What are some of your worst fears & phobias? What have you done to face them, get over them, & how has it turned out?

I think mine is water & snakes. While going thru a horrible breakup I thought what better way to feel better about myself than to re-committ myself to the gym & to face my fear of water & take swimming lessons.

Im going to check into it tomorrow. Oh & the snake thing....theres not a chance in hell im getting over that one, lol.

Fear of Rejection- Cured- How? = I thought of light it doesnt fear the darkness but instead over comes it in great abundance followed by hope and love and joy

Fear of people talking about me-cured- How?= my integrity stands great I know this now I wont let others opinion alter how I feel about myself I know who I am

Fear of being alone- Still a work in progress- to bide my time I focus on my in the Gym and being with friends and maybe oen day I wont have this sunken feelin in my heart

I used to have a fear of walking into crowded places. Maybe meeting friends at a bar or having to walk through a busy loby area by myself to meet people on the other side of the room, lol i just hate thinking that people are looking at me icon_redface.gif
i realize they're obviously not and that its all in my head but still it was a werid thing to try and get over.

So i just perfected my Jessica bitch face icon_biggrin.gif problem solved! (im joking, i just think about it all being in my head.)

I'm afraid of the ocean and many of the creatures in it, especially whales.

I guess I overcame it a little bit so far because my ex (when I was with him) convinced me to swim with him on a beach in Florida. I was still kinda freaking out though and I wouldn't let him leave my side haha.

I don't think I'll ever get over the fear of whales though, they're so fucking huge and scary and even illustrations (not cartoony but semi-realistic) of them freak me out.
The WORST is that there's an ad campaign for visiting Mexico or whatever travel destination it is and one of the posters in many of our subway stations has a whaleshark on it, and it says "SWIM WITH THE BIGGEST SHARKS IN THE WORLD".
I took a photo of the poster with my cell phone to text to my friends (they all know I fucking hate whales) and I was legit afraid to approach the poster, I had to stand as far away as I could and at a good enough (not perfect) angle to be able to get the shot because it scared me so much. I guess it's probably weird that I'm scared of them like that midday in a subway station full of people.

    TL;DR I FUCKING HATE WHALES

Heights and Spiders are my two biggest fears EVER.

To get over the heights one: I work at a whitewater center facility here in Charlotte and ended up pushing myself to complete the "High Ropes Course Facilitator Training" which scared the shit out of me but after two weekends of doing it, it wasn't all that bad by the end. I'm not over heights though, still gives me the heebie jeebies

    Spiders? Well fuck that.

I had a fear of heights. But than, I went to highest bungy in the world in Macau, and jumped off 233 meters. NO FEAR, just ADRENALIN! The sooner u face your fears, you'll realize how life is great. They say that coward dies many times, while brave man only once!

I have a fear of Barbra Streisand and I have not overcome it. The fear was heightened just in the past day when an unidentified perpetrator mentioned "Evergreen." icon_lol.gif

    Maggots.

Specifically not one or a few maggots, but having on a few isolated cases of having to move cans or bags of trash that were positively INFESTED with the disgusting little bastards.

One of a very few things that will have me in a tizzy.

I have a fear of water. I took swimming lessons when I was a kid, but it just never took. I can never remember a time when I've been comfortable in the water.

Well, I fear the dentist. Irrationally so, since I feared going prior to ever having had a cavity, and I have no fear of normal doctors. So for a long time, I dealt with this by simply not going, which is ridiculously immature, but what happened.

Now, I go, but I've been prescribed a single valium to take an hour beforehand, and while I still mentally freak out, I no longer clench my jaw as a fear response, which makes the whole thing a lot easier on everyone. The dentist/hygienist can actually get their hands in enough to work on my back teeth, and I don't keep getting told "I need you to open up" when I'm doing as much as I consciously can to do so.

Spiders crawling on me. I don't mind if I have one in my room tucked away in the corner or something but if I ever felt one crawling on me while I'm lying in bed icon_eek.gif

The Ocean. I don't know why large bodies of water terrify me. Something about I don't know what could be swimming under me and the idea of being in like mile deep water is just frightening.

I hate roller coasters or anything that goes high or fast...I always hate being the stick in the mud when going to the theme parks and I never go on like any of the rides. I still somehow have fun with people, but I feel like I'm being judged. I have tried to conquer this fear, but It never works, I just freaked out in the line and puled out my hair. lol

Hmm. Ever heard of water-snakes? Check that pool out carefully before you dive in. :-)

Excellent thing to do after a breakup. I went skydiving after my breakup, it was an amazing confidence boost.

My greatest fear has always been of sharks. Being from Tennessee, I have no idea how that came to be. My near future goal is to eventually do a Great White dive in a cage. I just want to know that I can. It'll happen!!

2 fears - sort of funny actually

I once had a fear of choking when I was a kid...it was random and dunno at all where it came from. I figure I kept having a stick figure for this reason - I ate very little. I got over it by later being a teenager and bending to the will of my stomach when attacking my kitchen back home. icon_razz.gif

Fear of roller coasters. A lot of us have them and some manage to get over it by actually riding them (makes sense)! Well I thought that riding SheiKra at Busch Gardens with friends might work out for the better (it wasn't floorless at this time). Nope. It was a noble attempt but to this day I refuse to go on these attractions! icon_eek.gif
