How many Midwesterners or really anyone from anywhere planning on doing Dream Cruise on Aug 20 this year? If you’ve gone in the past, where do you hang on event day? I’m mobile for the few evenings prior and then Old Woodward for event day. Driving Woodward is too jammed to see much on Saturday so stationary or on foot is best.

Spring has sprung, a bit, and the recent rains have washed the salt off of the roads so it’s time to get the old iron out of the garage and on to the streets.

Being that I live in downtown Royal Oak, I will be at 11 Mile or Lincoln and Woodward. I will be there because I can walk from the house. Driving is too difficult. The pic you have is at 15 Mile and Woodward (Birmingham) and that is one of the prime spots. If I was going to drive from somewhere though and then park and hang out, I would go to 9 Mile and Woodward- the mixed gay restaurant/bar Como's (although it fills up to capacity a lot that weekend and can be difficult to get in) and the gay bar Soho are there, so you can occasionally stop in and have a drink with boys on your walking around,

The pic was Merrill and Old Woodward so very close.

I generally stay at the Residence Inn right off of Southfield then take Southfield up to Maple and across to Woodward. On Cruise day there is a city garage at Martin and Chester that always has parking so it’s just a three or four block walk and I'm in the center of the action.

I have found some fond memories of Royal Oak and some not so fond. 400 N. Main was Royal Pontiac, which was the epicenter of Pontiac street action, but 40+ years ago the Royal Oak cops didn’t think so kindly of me putting it into action, getting me a citation for ‘speed contest’ - don't understand how the hell that could happen! That made my dad real happy with me. And that was after a 130 in a 45 zone bust the year before and two times of out running the Ohio Highway Patrol. I didn't get caught either of those times but my parents found out about due to my little brother's big mouth. So my parents were very concerned that I was off to a very bad start.

I had essentially this car but mine was a Grand Prix instead of a Cat and with a 389 HO Tri-Power, 4-speed, 3.90 posi. The pic is the 61 coronado red on a 62 cat and I had the slightly darker hondorous maron.
