injured elbow

I hurt my elbow while lifting a couple days ago (bad form while lifting- locked it funny while trying a new excerise and something popped - I'm an idiot).

It's a little red and swollen and there's a dull ache pretty much constantly.

I've been limiting myself to cardio since I injured it, but the pain hasn't really subsided any further and I was wondering how much longer I should put off lifting with it?

I know better than to go back in "guns blazing" while it still hurts, but could I get away with lighter weights?

Thoughts / ideas / (you can hold the criticisms: I'm doing just fine berating myself thank you very much)

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks :-)

get an MRI... seriously... the elbow is as complex a structure as the knee. There are some elbow injuries that can only be repaired within a period of time.

Get a good sports ortho doc and get it checked out.
