Serious Observation

    So I noticed something

Maybe it's just this site or not, I am not sure but it seems like there is so much inequality and injustice within the gay community. How can you want gay marriage and all these equal rights when the community isn't even strong? How can you blame everyone else for problems when there are so many issues that you have created and that are internal?

I have read so many forums here about men coming out. Some guys just write threads to get some support b/c this is the only place they can go to. Some guys get lots of emails and replies that are all positive. Some others get a few replies and few emails. Like when a hott guy comes out and he posts on here, everyone is all over it and he receives hundreds of emails and the thread is like 5 pages long of congratulations.

Why does a "hott" guy get more time than an "average" guy or even a young guy vs an older guy? Seems to me that the gay community's foundation is and will always be something physical. Even the hatred toward different opinions that may be considered "unpopular" is sad here.

Just because it's RealJock doesn't mean you only talk to guys with amazing bodies and pretty faces. We are all in the same boat one way or another. Why must we continue to be mean for no good reason? Hating people cuz of their looks, political beliefs, etc. Isn't that not different than hating someone for their sexual orientation?

Why does what other people say about a person have more weight than actually experiencing that person one on one? If gossip and sex rule this community, then I see no progression. Just a bunch of gays begging for and forcing acceptance.

Beauty, vanity, conceit, outward appearances, these aren't things that rule the gay community. They rule the human race.

So good, it needs to be pointed out a second time.

    Peace,

I have found this site to be very compassionate and understanding towards participants. In fact, when there are mean spirited posts, the other guys usually are very quick to denounce it.

I am no MOTD, but everyone has been very nice to me. Well, for the most part

Ok then, explain why all the world leaders are ugly.

Or why such human frailties do not prevent straights from organizing themselves politically, and being effective. Whereas the gay community is largely disorganized and politically impotent, illustrating the proverbial problem of "trying to herd cats."

Every cat an independent queen, or king, with their own personal agenda, unwilling to cooperate and combine their efforts, to subordinate their own personal interests for the common good. And as a consequence, we all fail together.

I am convinced the gay community will never be strong against outside political threats, that weakness being as genetic & inherent as our being gay itself. Even if a strong gay leader were to step forward, no one would follow him or her. Yes, it's herding cats, and why we lose.

I firmly believe that we have had MANY gay leaders, even in our lifetime.
They're just closeted, because "coming out" would be career suicide.

The OP makes valid points and raises interesting questions that can't be pushed aside merely by saying that the obsession with physical beauty is a characteristic of the human race and not just gay men. There are obvious differences between the straight and gay worlds in terms of the importance of physical beauty. For example, could there ever be a gay male equivalent of Oprah ... someone who is beloved during his lifetime and possessing tremendous business and social authority despite being overweight most of the time? Probably not, because in the gay male world nothing can overcome a significant physical "defect" like being overweight.

Tell the average gay man you're a billionaire and see if they reject you. Hell I'm sure a large number of straight men would date a gay billionaire just for the spillover. Also if you have that much money there are a myriad of options at your disposal to combat not just your weight problem, but your general appearance in general to offset it.

Good point. If you have a billion dollars someone will no doubt overlook your "defects" as long as the money holds out ... which seems consistent with the OP's observations.

i don't agree. the OP makes a good point which shouldn't be wrongfully trivialized to it being an overgeneralized human problem. beauty, vanity, conceit, outward appearances aren't things that necessarily rule the gay community (although it appears that way more times than not), but it definitely rules in the RJ community.
