P.S. The Judge is 100% right about the thing they're arguing over.

What do you think of how she handled it though? Personally... I love it. =]

I can't say that I'm much of a fan. I went through a phase of watching day time TV though.

Judge Milian rarely expresses such emotion and is usually very level-headed unlike Judge Judy who seems to delight in degrading people.

However the defendant was out of line, and as her commentary says it is not so much that he disrespected her but that he disrespected the court process, that caused her to react so strongly.

I saw the "full" case (well the edited version they put on tv) and she was completely in line with this reaction. The defendant was petulant and immature and frankly needed a verbal smackdown to enlighten him. Being that he is a law student it is truly shocking that he didn't learn respect and decorum for the court process.

    As such I "likey".

I'd like to have seen the full episode, where she heard this case.

BTW, you know this is just binding arbitration, to which the parties have agreed beforehand? And not an actual court case?

My former BF is an arbitration judge, and heard cases like this all the time. I used to travel with him all around the state when he heard cases, but they weren't in a court. Often in a hotel conference room.

These TV people may have been court judges earlier in their careers, but what you're seeing is arbitration, to which the 2 parties agree to comply beforehand.

These TV "judges" have no power of subpoena, or contempt, or any authority beyond what the litigants have previously agreed to give them. To call these "courts" is a sham.

She got a little immature there even though she was completely right.

I think many of us know this, but I was just curious to your reaction to her mini-monologue. I loved it... icon_smile.gif

I dunno...I love seeing Judge Judy flip out...no one wakes up on the wrong side of the bed as often as her. LOL

As for the others, I noticed that just about everytime a woman sues/is being sued by a man on Judge Pirro, she asserts she was physically abused by him...and it seems like more often than not, she believes the woman.

Judge Mathis is kinda cool and funny...it's usually pretty relaxed, unless someone bashes their Mother. Then, look out!

I think that's all of them, isn't it?

I agree. JJ is as sharp as a knife. No one dishes it out like she does.

I think they should get rid of SCOTUS and give the job solely to Judge Judith Sheindlin.

He dispected the court and the process. I recall a young lawyer at a firm that I worked at went into court and he wasn't prepared. The judge let him HAVE IT! I thought the kid was going to cry! Judges takes this process very seriously especially their rulings when they fallow the rule of law.

Oh, well, I loved it, too! My partner watches these faux "court" programs a lot, on which I'll sometimes walk in, and "Judge Judy" disgusts me. Abusive and arbitrary, egotistical and eratic in her rulings.

But this woman is pretty good. And as to your question, yeah, he had it coming. Maybe not a good example of judicial restraint and comity on her behalf, but good TV, what these things are really all about.

I agree. I got used to watching it because my partner's now-deceased mother liked her, and we kept on watching as kind of a weird tribute. But I had to stop because I always felt a bit dirty - and aggressive - afterward.
