Why are they so angry and mean and hateful? What is their deal? If you go by the Bible (Catholic alter boy for 8 years here) there is a part I do believe about eye for an eye. How would they like it if we picketed their church?

They would love it! It would just be another sign for them that the devil is after those who are most outspoken for (their twisted version of) God. It would only put fuel on the flames of their "ministry."

I have seen people using this delusional, twisted sort of thinking time after time, especially in wacko religious circles.

(Disclaimer: This is not meant to be disrespectful to those Christians that put love and grace for all above all.)

One of the most important things to know about these people is that they are not a church. They own no building, they have no services, there is no congregation, they have no "pastor". They are a family of freako's who call themselves a church, but they give good honest, loving Christians a bad name.

    They are evil.

One ponders the same thing about many here, so what seperates them?

They're not a church. They're a family of lawyers looking to make a quick buck. They "protest" at funerals, hoping that they..

    A) Get assaulted by people from the funeral
    B) Get arrested by local law enforcement
    C) Get issued a court order that prevents them from protesting
    D) All of the above

Then they hide behind abuse the First Amendment, and claim that their rights are being violated. Then they file a civil lawsuit against A, B, C, D and seek monetary damages.

WBC are nothing but trolls and scam artists. Religion has very little to do with their agenda.

Honestly, I think some of the one-pastor-megachurches are a bit of a scam as well. At least fiscally. I think we would see less of these if clergy started paying SSI taxes, and churches income taxes.

What does that mean? I am not sure I understand you.

Think I saw an article on them and what they're all about on CNN.

Personally I think the best thing we can do is totally ignore them. STOP paying them any attention. STOP going out to protest them-this is what they WANT-it gets them more attention. If we, the media, news, etc. stopped paying any attention to them, maybe they'd go away..or better yet, die. The "pastor" only has a couple years left in him anyway.

If you've not had the "pleasure" of seeing them in person, it's a circus freak show. Kids as young as 6-8 holding "God Hates Fags" signs. It's a sight to see...and feel sorry for.

jockfever: Wish I had a gold coin for every RJ topic started about Westboro.

Also an altar boy, briefly BTW.

Westboro church members claim that they want people to repent of their sins.

That's what one member of the Phelps family (the woman lawyer who won their case before the US Supreme Court) said. She's obviously no dummy.

I'm one of the few who think Westboro should have lost their First Amendment case.

Not because of the anti-gay stuff but because a country that disrespects its dead veterans and their anguished families is on the way to not having any veterans. No veterans means no First Amendment. No WW II veterans and we'd all be speaking German or Japanese.

Free speech is priceless. I'd say, however, that their disruption of veterans' funerals is the kind of free speech we can and should make more distant. Instead of 1000 feet away from the funeral, let's make it 5,280 or more feet away.

When the going is easy... its easy to adhere to the constitution. When things get tough, it takes a Patriot to to stand tough and not allow the 'bending' of that constitution.......
