So, I'm waiting on my computer to stop being a douche when I found this!
    http://www.athleteally.com/home2/

There's this awesome wrestling coach who has made an 'athlete ally' pledge. Its brand new so I don't know how useful it will be. Maybe it can be as good as "its gets better." I know that this movement is in response to gay teen suicides. Anyways, I thought other people on this sight might like the idea. Also, the dude's hot.

Hudson posts a little weekly vid on youtube under AthleteAlly too, and he's on Twitter if you're interested aswell. He usually personally answers mail/questions if you send him one.
Out Sports have quite a few articles on him, seems like a great guy! Ben Cohen has met with him quite a few times so his campaign is definately picking up speed icon_biggrin.gif

yeah I've read about this guy on outsports before. It's truly amazing that a straight athlete like Hudson (and Cohen too) is so devoted to such a cause.

I think it's very important to have straight allies to speak out against homophobia. it's probably easier for them to get through to straight people...

btw check out this video he made with his girlfriend, he's quite a remarkable man.

I had a chance to see Hudson Taylor speak last Saturday at the Philadelphia Human Rights Campaign dinner. He was in town coincidentally for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, which also brought my Dad into town, being a lifelong wrestler/fan/coach.

Meanwhile, Taylor told basically the same story you see in the video above and then announced he was giving $1,200/year to the campaign and then challenged everyone in the room to match or beat it.

His spirit came across as genuine to most of us, at least at my table...and it's terrific to see allies like him taking the time to be supportive in really creative ways. Cheers to him!

Seems like he's going to be an amazing father.

I laughed when he gave up on waxing his upper lip- it hurts so much.

I'm in love; he's absolutely gorgeous!

He seems like an awesome person. I hope this takes off and actually makes an impact. It would have been nice in high school to be in the locker room and not hear the word faggot every 30 seconds. And it wasn't even directed at me, everyone would just say it for the sake of saying it. I have pretty thick skin, but that sort of thing gets old fast. If I'd been out in high school, I definitely would not been able to play basketball... The harassment I would have received would have been absolutely intolerable.

Although I think I would have still run track. The track team was always pretty open minded.

It's always good to have straight allies. Folks like Dan Savage are great and all, but straight people look at him and think he's gay, of course he's a proponent of gay rights. When a straight person enters the arena for our team, it makes other straight people stop and question his motives. In turn, that could be enough to make them question their stance on gay social justice and that can be enough to change minds. Anyways, the more the public can relate to a person trying to make a point, the more likely the public will take that point to heart. Since our problems stem from the straight majority, save the closeted priests and politicians, straight pro-gay activists are a godsend.

I still can't get over how gorgeous he is.

    Very cool.

I just heard about a "big brother" type organization for young gay athletes.
I'll post a new topic when I get the info.

He reminds me of that Dawson's river kid.

Growing up no coaches I knew were like this. I do hope his efforts lower teasing which can lead to teen suicide amoung gay youth.

Ya I stole that saying from the 10 things I hate about you movie.

As a side I would fuck JVB so hard.

I totally agree... Straight allies can probably make a greater impact on other straight people, than gay activists can, in some cases anyway. Especially when athletes who are admired by a lot of straight guys are willing to stand by us, and show they're not intimidated by our sexuality, and that they would stand up for a gay team mate.

    funny thing about these forums....

a thread like this that is about someone making an extraordinary effort to try and make life easier for gay athletes, rarely makes it past one page.

Then you have 10 different threads about the new Britney Spears song that go on and on and on.... icon_rolleyes.gif

    ..... so "bump"

... signed the pledge too. and I'd encourage anyone who's a part of a sports community - leaders/coaches/teachers, athletes, friends/family of athletes - to sign the pledge.
or if you know someone who is, tell them about "athlete ally", I think it's a great initiative. the facebook page of athlete ally is also quite active
