I wish people will stop giving people like Gimgrich, Palin, and Bachman airtime and allow competent presidential contenders to be heard

Yup, true to form, the GOP is focusing on social issues. All that talk of small government, reigning in debt, creating jobs - was just smokescreen, and a lot of voters stepped into the trap. Control is all they want.

Gotta love them whacky Iowans, keeping their eye on the ball and focusing on what's important.

Indeed. I've said the same thing before about the TEA Party. They would at least be believable and have some credibility if they protested in front of Bank of America and Wall Street as much as they did on the Washington Mall.

Ok, you guys in the USA keep having problems with lunatics with guns. Maybe those lunatics just need to be redricted to a better prey. Sorry, I've been watching too much of My Name Is Earl.

Gingrich isn't running for president and likely never will. What he is doing is using the attention to get people to give him money.

He is and has always been a huckster.

I don't think it's fair to say that Gingrich isn't competent -- he is a very bright man -- he just isn't particularly likable. I personally don't like him at all, and would never vote for him. We need a forward thinking President and he is way too old school politician for my taste.

That would mean there could be a possible credible Republican candidate, and I definitely don't want that.

Palin and Gimboy all the way!

Unfortunately, he isn't bright enough to see the parallels between the way Republicans saw divorce in his day, and the way they see homosexuality now. He is all for asking the American people to see beyond his "sins" but not willing to entertain the notion regarding gays.

I agree with you. I have never liked him. Would hate for him to be President. He is a total hypocrite. That, however, does not mean he is not an intelligent man -- he may be ignorant about some things, and stubborn -- but he is a very intelligent man.

Seems like the leadership of the GOP is still mired in the "Southern Strategy".

I also hate that primary processes HAS to start in Iowa.

Nothing against Iowans, mind you... but having to build your initial campaign around what you *think* Iowans might be interested (primarily: continuing corn subsidies and taxes, with social issues on gay marriage and abortion coming in rather low on their priority list).

Still, the anti-gay/pro-life and other wedge issues are old hat, and the bread and butter of most GOP politicos born in mid-20th century.

Methinks we will need at least another generation before the GOP can let go of this stupid, limiting notion.
