First of all, I don't live in the states, secondly, I didn't really feel offended by this video rather than it's so funny. However, I am still quite interested to know how RJers think about this video. So put your two cents in please. icon_eek.gif

I find the ignorance quite comical.

    1) A big lesson of college is stepping out of your norms.
    2) There are other places to study, and if she's that easily distracted she's not gonna make it.
    3) Everyone has difficulties with neighbors. Get over it.

I thought it went out of proportions for no reason, she did make a couple of racist ish comments but other than that she just looked like a girl who clearly needs to hang out more with other cultures. I dont support all the hate going around, most of this girl's haters comments are by far more hateful and aggressive than whatever she said.

She doesn't come out and say Asian people are inferior to other races so I wouldn't classify her as a racist. Ignorant, obnoxious, entitled bigot? Absolutely!

I think you guys are missing the context of her situation...California is going through a rapid culture-movement right now where LITERALLY counties are begging for Asian/Pacific Islanders to apply as teachers, firemen, law enforcement, etc... In addition, UCLA is known as one of the most diverse campuses, has one of the best API (asian pacific islander) centers, and has a 40% student population of asian people.

Hundreds of different scholarships, internships, grants, workstudy and all that jazz have been appearing for the targeted group of API students as well in Southern California. Just 20 miles east of her college lies one of the largest asian-american outposts in the state as well.

i don't think it got blown out of proportion at all, i think justice was served and her being asked to leave ("quit") was necessary. california has just progressed far enough where people are NOT tolerating shit like this anymore. i think it's wonderful. and i'm sad to say she's in my major. ;(

Her venting clearly went the wrong way and yes she did sound racist but out of ignorance....

I do hope she completed her education though....She was dually punished for what she did but in saying that, she should be redeemed and have her eyes opened to the world.

Honestly, I could find the humor in the video given the age and possible socio-economic background of the young lady. I am finding more appreciation in people voicing what bothers them and also LOVE that we, as AMERICANS, have the rights and opportunity to voice what we think. Right or wrong, she has the right to her opinion just as anyone else does. It's tough to argue her perception of things when she only has one. lol! I would much rather have something like this posted on a web site than read, watch, or experience being shot at for having bad manners or talking on my cell phone in a public library for crying out loud. SPEAK SPEAK SPEAK! By all means, speak and get it out! icon_lol.gif There are plenty of noteworthy things to get wrapped around the axle about; in my opinion.

God she's so annoying. I have to say though, at my school I've noticed the same thing, it's no secret to people who live here (or maybe all my friends are just racist), but they do often talk loudly in the libraries, we're just not going to make a video about it.

    ... Amen, brother... icon_smile.gif

..As annoying/uncomfortable/shocking as the fact that she so publicly shared about her prejudices may be to some, it still is an opportunity for her - as well as others - to work on such perceptions of society and others. Also, I can't tell whether she's being honest or putting on a show and doing this video purely for shock value. If anything, I may have issues with the 'brutally' of her honesty rather than the substance of her rant. Her obvious exasperation might explained why she is being rude, but it certainly does not justify it...

Blown way out of proportion by the media I think.
The same media that makes it ok for that kind of humor to be used in so much of comedy in movies, tv shows, and standup..
    It's just a youtube rant.

    Is this racist?:

Personally I think it's fascinating to hear how a language sounds to another person that doesn't speak that language because it gives insight into how it is perceived and what it actually sounds like to someone who is not native to the language.

I was a racist once... but then I ate some pie and all that rage and hostility drifted away.

    People should eat more pies.

Not racist. Just ignorant and a failure to recognize cultural differences- ESPECIALLY around the families coming together during the weekends.

Honestly I do absolutely love all the videos anto posted. Especially Ms Swan! icon_biggrin.gif

I think the only reason people are saying the girl is a racist is because she comes off as a complete bitch haha

She goes to UCLA. I thought everyone knew that it stood for University of Caucasians Lost among Asians.

Yes, it's racist. She's ignorant about a whole race of people and her dislike of said people coupled with the ignorance is pretty much the definition of racism.

I agree with one of her points, though. People should not be talking on their cell phones in a library (and I was slightly surprised that she didn't pronounce it "li-berry"). They should not talk on their cell phones when seated at a restaurant, either.

    It's pretty fuckin' racist.

Or at least, it definitely comes across like she doesn't like asian people. Which is fine because by comparison there are way more racists on Realjoke than at UCLA.

And at least Realjoke is free.

Also while Anto is right about the media shooting out racism, I'd like to point of that one of the clips is from the UK, and three of the others are from shows that's broadcasted / once broadcasted by FOX.

And Fox is ALWAYS the place to consume your media from. Don't play the Glee card either, that show is just as racist as those clips.

This is exactly why I don't watch TV.

No - I don't think this girl is racist at all - she is just frustrated and talking about her issues. I have to ask this - if an Asian girl said this about any other race or culture - would she get the same bad attention as this girl got?? Would an asian girl talking bad about white americans be forced to quit her college because of this?? I seriously doubt it - but in the US and some other countries openly discussing your views about another race is viewed as "racist" when it's clearly not racist at all. Racist is when you go physically harm someone of another race and throw things at them....simply talking about something and expressing your views about another race's "typical" behaviour should not be termed as racist at all. How else will people learn and change and adapt if no one tells them they are WRONG???

Having said that - here in Europe I find Americans to be the most annoying "race"....they are loud, poorly dressed, obnoxious and manner less - I usually don't go up to them and point out their behaviour but if there's too many of them making a lot of noise - I just move away and prefer not to sit next to them. However I do realize that a lot of Americans coming to Europe are not the best Americans - they could be from backward parts of the US or just not sophisticated enough to understand European culture....there are many Americans who are also very sweet, well mannered and well behaved people.

Sorry but I think everyone should learn to behave a certain way if they are in another country - by "asian" this girl in the video probably meant foreign "asian" students and not the Asian Americans.... but then I've seen plenty of Asian Americans / Asian British who have parents and families exactly like she described.

I am not defending her, but no matter what college you are at I have heard that Asians tend be less considerate when it comes to matters like this. Personal space and courtesy are less of a concern in China, Korea, etc from what I understand due to the density of their cities.
