Britney Spears' career as a live performer 1999-2004

"As we pointed out when Spears' video for "Hold It Against Me" arrived, her dancing has become lifeless and stiff, and she no longer glares into the camera with what was once a ferociously determined gaze. It's like she's not there at all. What's to blame? Nobody but Spears knows the answer, but something certainly changed for Britney following her very public meltdown, which spanned nearly three years, from 2005 to 2008. "

I'm much more interested in what the resident Britney fans on RJ have to say to this. I think there is some truth in the article.

Im a 100% Die Hard Britney Fan...I think she is still a Great Performer...Does she dance like she did in 2000...No but she still has an amazing Ora and Energy when she dances.

Shes not the same Britney as 2000 Britney. Sometimes I wish she gave more but I still think she Performs GREAT. I think personally she lost a lot of confidence after her "breakdown" era and yes its ben about 4-5 years since but maybe she is slowly regainging it.

And For the Record...This was from Yesterday.1 Day AGO! and she does AMAZING in my opinion.Lifeless Really? not you, but directed towards yahoo

I am as die-hard as they come for Britney and while I do agree her lines, enthusiasm and performance skills are nothing compared to what she had and I hope she finds them again; but she is Britney and she is my queen.

Her dancing isn't like she was 19, but her music is still as good and she is still one of the best dancers in the industry (her only rivals Beyonce and Ciara).

I know she has personal problems that we most likely will never know about, and that's sad, but what can we do? She has improved immensely in performing since 2008 when "Circus" was released. I like to focus more on the music she puts out because there's too much we don't know about her personal life. I think she's afraid to make a mistake because she has always been criticized so much for every single thing she ever did and that makes her "stiff." She mostly sang live up to 2004, but she doesn't anymore and it's obvious why.

Either way, her "Till the World Ends" performance was fucking amazing!

And also, the album is out!!! WOOHOOOOOOOOOO icon_smile.gif

I've been to every Britney tour since 1999, and as much as it pains me to say it, she has lost a bit of that energy and intensity she once had. But at the same, we have to remember she's 29 now and she's been doing this for over a decade. And two children have come out of her womb. I mean, yeah, it's no wonder that she can't quite dance like she used to. But in regards to that sort of intensity that she's missing in her eyes, she's probably kind of jaded... but who can blame her? She's given thousands of performances and she's been to hell and back in her personal life... so yeah. But, I still think she's an incredible performer and you know when you go to a Britney concert that you're going to get your money's worth.

    So in conclusion, I <3 Britney. icon_biggrin.gif

well i'm no diehard so the diehards may hate me for saying this - i was never much interested in Britney until she "returned"... i find her music more grown up now, and especially find her tenacity and courage commendable, given the circumstances

He's talking about the disappearance of this...

Damn, she was sooo intense, focussed and "alive", back then ! She even sang some parts of the song, and her voice sounds drop dead sexy ! Her dancing was so top notch and fierce, she looked more dangerous than the Fukushima Nuclear Plant... Unfortunately, I don't think we can expect that from her now. icon_confused.gif

If she really was only rehearsing, I don't think they would've give the permission to MTV to tape the whole thing and broadcast it next week, which is obviously part of the whole Femme Fatale marketing campaign.

When you're dancing with a set-up, dancers, music, pyros, lighting, in front of 700 of your fans which you've called on twitter, I don't call that rehearsing.

Obviously not, we can't expect that from her. To keep up that kind of dancing, you have to be doing tons. She's barely been performing for the past EIGHT years. She did well, not her best performance, but it was good. Everyone is being way too critical and have to leave the past in the past.

If gay people focused as much attention on cellular biology research as they do on Britney Spears then we would have had a cure to AIDS by now.

I love Britney she has given us some of the hottest performances of all time. Im definitely routing for her. Her music is still fire but unfortunately her performances have been lacking. She is missing that fire she once had I don't know if its her confidence or if its her work ethic that has changed but I'm hoping with sometime back she will come back with a vengeance. For those saying shes not 19 anymore well neither is Beyonce', Janet Jackson, Madonna, and Kylie Minogue.

Do a you tube search of Britney Singing live. There's a surprising number of clips...whereas it's not the greatest singing ever, it sounds much better than the processed velveeta cheese she cranks out of the studio.

Who knows....I'm sure it's a lot more difficult to have fame and fortune at 17 than any of us mere mortals could ever understand. She's been through a lot...kind of wonder why now with a new cd?

Business wise, she should just get a drag queen who looks just like her and lip sync the performance. No one would be able to tell the difference. With that in mind, I hope she does gain her confidence and stage presence back. She's gone through so much in her young years.

i love britney no matter what, but its obvious she doesn't really care about performing anymore. i think she tasted real life outside of being a money making pop machine after her meltdown and probably spends more time with her kids then rehearsing , which is understandable of course. if she waited till later in life like madonna to become a mother she'd still have that fire in her to be a performer. Her Onyx Hotel tour and those before it were amazing and she commanded the stage and was totally there. The Circus tour she definelty lacked energy but being who she is, and her music it was still great. That said, i rarely buy cd's anymore but got hers cuz i want her to keep making music, and definetly going to see her upcoming tour, but know she's not getting better or expecting her to be as she was years ago. so if anything, glad i saw her at her best live and at least we can always go back and watch slave for you for classic full on britney.

Same here! I loved toxic and her performances but I think what is great is that she is back! I really hot offended when people were saying that she's gonna commit suicide. I am glad she didn't because she has two children to live for and who (m) will need her love!

I have LOVED Brit since day one.....

I went to Circus twice in Oz and thought it was "so so" but in time she would improve...

Then I went to FFT in La Plata and she was sooooooo bad!

She walked through the steps, slothed her way through "Slave" and had this look of "paranoia" on her face the whole time.

She is a shell of her former self. I just wish she was allowed to retire and come back if she really wanted to.

    Girl is over......
