This is one of saddest articles I've read. I didn't get my first cell phone until my senior year of high school, and even from then to now I don't feel the need to use it in excess.

I saw a news story on 13 year olds with Carpel Tunnel issues from texting so much.

I don't get it. I fucking hate texting.

People need to learn boundaries, and learn how to use their off buttom or airplane mode. Thanks for posting.

Is the amount of time teens spend texting today any greater than the amount of time teens spent on the phone in the 80s? I highly doubt it.

Neighbor kid I know is like a meth-head if he is separated from his texting for more than 5 minutes, lol.

Makes me wonder how a 16-year old can have such an interesting social life at his age that he cannot hold a decent conversation without pulling out the smartphone to whip off a text to any of his 35,624 buddies.

I'm lucky if I hit 200 texts a month, though I use cellular internet a whole bunch.

Sometimes I even come close to my limit of 200 texts per month ;)

But seriously, culture today has gotten way to enamoured of instantainious communication, and being online 24/7.

Well, they think they are that intesting. It's like people who post mutliple times on a single Forum Thread... ;)

I personally think people who text lack social skills and are just being elusive in actually wanting to interact with people.

I've seen people texting in groups to people who are less then a foot away from them. What the hell? I think it's just rude. I saw a few kids almost get ran over the other day because they were texting and walking.

And your generation was whoring on the phone when that was trendy in the 80s. There's no difference IMO.

Teens wouldn't text so much if the world adults created for them was so boring to begin with.

Weak sauce, try 15 hour flight. If I send more than 200 texts a month it means something CRAZY was going on.

I can think of a MILLION reasons to text that have nothing to do with being elusive and everything to do with killing time.

I agree with you. Texting is stupid. If the message is important, I''d rather get it voice to voice and if I can't answer, then leave me a voice message. And if the message isn't urgent, then send me an email. I don't see the purpose in texting because it takes longer to text a message instead of just leaving a voice message. Texting actually reminds me of when people years ago use to send out morse codes. It's very archaic and outdated when we have so much faster means of communication today. If you want an immediate response from me, voice messages is the way to go. Texting is so impersonal.

I've never had a need to kill time. I've always got more than enough to do and kill enough of it already. lol

I don't believe that txting is really a problem
I txt all the time...I have many great friends...and I consider myself to be a social person (go out to clubs parties etc...)
I think a lot of people are blowing this out of proportion

Shame on anyone who judges kids for texting. Y'all act like y'all aren't addicted to anything or love doing something. I agree that it is ridiculous that kids think they should sleep with their phones but as a teen I love to text and a lot of the time I don't have time to hang out with people so I multi task and text them and it sure beats talking on the phone. You older gentlemen that grew up in the 80's talked on the phone for how many hours?! The same thing. And all you muscle guys that work out wayyyyy too much. Ya you can get injured from that. Atleast todays kids are texting and not out doing drugs and getting in trouble like they use to when they'd "hang out." It gives parents a lot less to worry about with their kids. And I know some of you like facebook and all that and your on this web site a majority of your time is that not just as bad? Posting on some of the stupidist forums. I'm sorry if I offended you but the way some of y'all think is just plan out stupid...sorry I'm honest. But hey hope y'all have a nice day

I don't mind texting, I like to use it for brief conversations that I don't have to go into elaborate detail, which calling would be a waste and kind of annoying. If I really need to have a serious conversation I'll call.
