Dan Savage, that is! I just went to see him speak here in Seattle about the It Gets Better Project and the new book he wrote (with his partner, Terry) on the project's most inspiring stories. I just wanted to dedicate this post to him.

I've been reading his column religiously since I was about 15, and honestly I can say his ideas played a large role in shaping the man I've become today. Reading about the many, many beautiful shades of sexuality in our world and with such honesty and clarity allowed me to embrace being gay a lot sooner and with a lot more cojones than I would've been able to otherwise.

The It Gets Better Project is probably Savage's crowning achievement. Some people derided it when it first came out in September as a giveaway to celebrities who wanted free gay publicity. Honestly, I can say there is nothing better you can give to the closeted gay kids of small towns everywhere than an honest portrait of regular people leading happy, successful gay lives because they lived to do so.

The guy is surely a man to be admired. If just one tenth of the gay men in this world would even do one third of what he has accomplished, being gay would not be have the negative stigma that too many people associate it with.

I love Dan Savage also. Even my sister and my brother in law are getting into him after I told them about a couple of funny columns and the It Gets Better project. Maybe their... erhmmm... marital life will be rewarded! Ugh! icon_lol.gif

The guy is incredibly bright and a terrific and amusing public speaker. I subscribe to his YouTube channel where he posts soundbites of some of his speaking engagements. Great sense of humor that breaks it down and makes the subject of sex and sexuality universal, he draws very accurate parallels between hetero and homo sexuality.

Doesn't hurt that he's handsome as hell and has a rocking bod either!
