When I was broke...I told myself that I have my health, mind and was able bodied. A sick person would gladly trade every penny they own to be right where you stand now.
You're not as bad off as you think. It will be ok.
But you're scared because you need to take some actions right now...and you don't know what those are.
The first thing you need to do is apply for government assistance. There are volunteers who can guide you through the system. (ACORN used to do this, until some wealthy republican's kid punked them with that scam video.) If you can't find one, visit your state welfare office. At the very least, you can get food stamps. You might also be eligible for unemployment benefits. Also, cities have assistance programs.
But the main thing is finding work. Put on your best clothes and go door to door offering to work for stores, hospitals, schools, etc....this is actually the best way to find a job, since your competition is zero. But visit craigslist.org and search the help wanted ads.
This sounds hokey to remember, but I swear it's true: "It's not the size of the dog in the fight...but the size of the fight in the dog."
It's gonna be ok.
Keep us posted.
