there was more to it as well....very informative for those who simply don't have access to weight machines...or just do not have that kind of body...

Men have been doing this for a while now its not just gay men..
However, I dont think it is as bad as what women do to look good.

A friend of mine has been using steroids and I can see a definite change in his body, however he also has developed a very hot temper that he didn't have before. I guess this is a side-effect? icon_confused.gif

From what I've seen and heard, steroids can do far more harm than good. The temper "Roid Rage" is a side effect along with several others.

Probably an interesting documentary, I'd check it out if I got the Logo channel in my area.

I was looking into steroids but I have a pretty bad temper already, and I didnt want backne.

The documentary "Bigger Faster Stronger" makes steroids look like no big deal

Yes, the 'Roid Rage temper outbursts already mentioned. Also shrinking balls in many cases. It wouldn't surprise me if long-term studies come out that identify other negative effects of disturbing your body's natural hormonal balance.

I watched the show on Logo. It shows how shallow and superficial gay guys really are. There's a particularly disturbing segment on this "hot" guy whose life revolved around drugs, boys, sex, and circuit parties until he woke up one day to brush his teeth and his teeth started falling off one after another.

Sure, the teeth issue would be mostly about drugs and more specifically cocaine from what I understand. You take out that factor and this guy might not have too many issues currently, but when he gets older how will he support himself, etc.

I guess I don't see the teeth thing as that much of an issue. My mom and one of my sisters had to have most of their teeth replaced because of a genetic issue:

There are lots of positives and negatives with roids....and there are a lot of different kinds of roids. Some roids cause the "alpha male mentality" which is actually a good thing when you're in the gym, but media has hyped it as "roid rage". Even some over-the-counter pro-hormones and supplements can give you this feeling. A great many roids will not make you feel this way. Some roids might pack on a lot of muscle and still you have no issues with roid rage or depression, etc.....but then again it might be known to cause liver damage and night blindness, etc. If you know what you are doing, you can avoid many of the negative side effects of using roids, and sadly, to my great chagrin, a great majority of the guys at the gym that I've wanted to look like I have later found to be taking consistent multiple cycles of roids to look that way.

The ball shrinkage can happen when you are ON some roids, but with pct(post cycle therapy) it shouldn't be an issue after the cycle.

There are hundreds of negative side effects documented by using steroids, as well as hundreds of positive effects.

I really could go on for hours about this. Why do you think these men do this?

Lately, I've really been stepping it up a notch on my gym training and diet. I want to get into beach shape for the summer, and looking forward to getting into the best shape of my life.

I've lost a few lbs of fat and have gained a few lbs in muscle. At this point you would not believe the insane response I'm getting when I go out the bars. Just because of a few lbs more of muscle and getting a little bit more defined I get at least ten times more interest from guys.....it really is insane.

I know a couple of guys that are in completely awesome shape. Basically all eyes are on these guys at the clubs, and it seems like no one else really exists and the only guys being hit on are these guys.

So......I really do get why some guys have resorted to steroids.....but honestly.....who are the shallow ones? The guys that feel that they can't compete without killing themselves at the gym, or all the other guys that will have no interest in you if you don't have a killer body?

It's not really a chicken-or-egg argument (who's more shallow?) as much as it is an epidemic in the gay community.

It wasn't just muscle boys on that show, either. There was a group of skinny WeHo twinks who admitted to camera that they constantly call each other fat (none of them were even close) and another pair of vapid skinnyshits from San Francisco who explained that the only reason they went after people who looked (i.e. weighed) the same as they did was because they wouldn't have anything in common with other people.

Body image and superficiality are both albatrosses around the gay community's neck. We have collectively allowed ourselves to be put in the same unenviable position that women have found themselves for decades - held up to a physical ideal that is impossible or unrealistic for many to accomplish and then led to believe that we are - as human beings, not just as sexual objects - worthless if we don't attain them.

It's spreading to straight men, too. But everyone is to blame, not just the 45 yr old men who wear foundation and spend 3 hours getting ready to go to a circuit party.

I always wonder which guys take steroids and which guys dont.
I dont want to give myself objectives that are unattainable, because I will never be able to do steroids. I do feel like a lot of guys at the gym uses it (I go to a gay gym) but maybe its just jealousy ?

Losing all his teeth might make him more popular.
