Im trying to meet somewhere in the middle with a guy I have known for a long time. Im in Richmond, VA, but want to meet up in a beachy area this weekend. I was thinking VA Beach. Although nice, I didn't want too much touristy stuff. Does anyone know of another beach area south of VA Beach or in N. Carolina?

There are a million beach towns. Try the outer banks, or Emerald Isle. For the best "beachtown" experience, go to Okrakoke Island on the the Southern end of the outer banks. My grandparents had a beach house on Nags Head when I was growing up. It is on the northern end of the outer banks and only about an hour or so into NC from VA; it is a nice beach. The Wright Brothers memorial is a cool thing and Jockey's Ridge, an enormous sand dune, is really fun ot climb and play on. Climb to the top (cardio) and then roll down the side (dizzy fun)!

    Good luck!

The Onslow Beach area near Jacksonville (you would need a miltary ID to access it via Camp Lejeune MCB) or any of the nearby beach towns (Surf City, Topsail etc) are great places to hang out for a relaxing weekend or week. Enjoy!

I used to go to Outer Banks of NC all time when I lived in Norfolk. Wide open, no crowds, no hotels and resort areas. If you have a 4x4 truck, you can drive on beach off beaten path. I spent the whole weekend only wearing a pair of bikini briefs (underwear) and only saw a few other trucks out there, mostly fisherman, and nobody cared what I was wearing. Have to be carfull though, No lifegaurds and swim at your own risk. You can be out there 24 hours a day, only that you cant "camp" out there, like pitch a tent next to truck etc. Park rangers do drive by occasionally. Go to Okrakoke Island, which is the most remote acess. There is a free ferry that runs from Hatterass over to Okrakoke up to about 10pm. Its been many years since Ive been there. There is and was a nude section of beach on Okrakoke, Havent found the acess point. I just left the truck on another section and walked to the area (vehicles wernt allowed). The areas are mostly deserted anyhow, so you can get away with nudity in most areas.

I'm from Cape Hatteras originally. I live in CA now, but I never really appreciated my home until I came out here and the beaches really do not compare.

I would def say the Outer Banks, our beaches are superior. That's why I see so many Virginia license plates - you guys come down here to visit because it's still relatively decommercialized. We've got some great restaurants, too, like the Dunes restaurant in Nags Head or the Jolly Roger in Kitty Hawk.
