Things I hate about a gym/fitness center.

I just moved into some new apartments in Tampa, and the fitness center on property is actually a pretty good one [rare thing I'm guessing]. Well equipped with brand new [and nearly new] machines and weights and I'm sure I wont need to get a real gym membership.

I've spent two days so far using the facility and it's been very quiet and clean [so far] until today I was working in it by myself when a few typical "dumb jock" type teenagers come in and just explode obnoxious teen crap all over the place. I'm nowhere near being a physical trainer but I'm smart enough to know some basics...they were slamming weights and using obviously waaay too much weight that was pulling them up off seats [lat pull down for example].

This post doesn't have much point really, I'm just wanting to vent. I hope this was the right place to do so. I suppose it's something I should expect but the way I see it, the high quality fitness center is part of my rent.. I hate that it's not monitored...but whatever.

/end rant. I'm sure [hoping] tomorrow is a better day. icon_lol.gificon_eek.gif

EVERY gym has the same monsters as your gym. I workout at a Gold's Gym. Here are my pet peeves:

    1) Guys who have to grunt or squeal loudly with EVERY rep.
    2) Schmucks who do not put their weights away.
    3) A-holes who chat on their phones while sitting on a bench.
    4) Pigs who leave leave their sweat on a machine or a bench.
    5) Like you mentioned, dickheads who drop or throw weights around.

So you see, you don't have it so bad . . . yet.icon_biggrin.gif

This isn't a pet peeve, but just a question. Why do guys have to carry a full gallon of water while working out? I mean really.....do you REALLY lose 4liters of sweat during a workout? REALLY?

I go to the university gym which is pretty big and filled with younger guys. We do have a bunch of rules and people monitoring which makes it a enjoyable place to go. The things that do happen that annoy me or piss off are when :
    - people don't put the weights back at the correct spot
    - they put their towel on a machine to 'reserve' it but is doing a super-set that doesn't require it somewhere's else
    - they talk in groups while blocking peoples way
    - their form is obviously very wrong
    - you see them and you're only thought is "they're going to hurt themselves"

China has much different standards as far as cleanliness goes, and the way some things look in my gym would make your skin crawl. For example, I don't do pushups on the ground because I'd have to touch the floor. Not fun. icon_confused.gif

My issue is the people who run my gym. I wish they would play better music, and clean up the place a bit more. They should also get better equipment.

/oh right, I work out at home.

Agreed. It's also annoying to see people who text/talk on their mobile for like, forever.

Professed gym enthusiasts in general. I can not handle going to gym anymore as I am constantly subjected to superficial guys staring at themselves (Ally McBeal pout and all) as they lift their weights, whilst discussing their low calorie diets and protein shakes. That is not attractive, so the whole perving thing goes out the window too.

I prefer to just go for a run, do some push ups and play sports!

Lol, yeah I guess it would get them out of my face.

I really don't mind spotting guys at all and I actually give spots ALL the time (I am a regular at my gym). 300+lbs is pushing it though ;) .. I don't want anyone to die because I failed while spotting them!

LOL, I was gonna say people in Tampon are assholes wherever they go.

Are you kidding me? The only time you can see a view like that is if you're living in one of the very, very few highrises that actually exist there. (I'm from Tampa so I can talk plenty shit).

Now, feast your eyes on this:

Great, now I won't be intimidated to ask a guy for a spot or to walk up to a guy and ask to spot him!

Ultimately my mind wonders back to why they're called breeders and than the fishy wet holes they poke.

My biggest pet peeve is how people treat their fucking towel like its this amazing germ barrier. Think about it, that towel touches every machine in the gym. Now unless you know exactly which side is facing you all the time you are just cross contaminating the whole place and wiping someones ass sweat on your face all the time. If you want to know how to get a bacterial infection cross contamination is how. So, clean the damn machine if you sweat all over it.

Also, senior citizens, I love you and props to you for coming to the gym but I have other places to go and I really don't have time to participate in your 5 hour workout where you move to every machine and spend 20 minutes on each one. And god help us if you came with someone else.

I really do like my gym though. If I'm in the mood I can go during prime time and there are tons of hot guys or if I want to go and be alone I can go at 2am lol (24 hour fitness ftw).

For the most part I really enjoy watching behavior so I can just laugh at them when they do obnoxious things like treat a 20lb dumbbell like its 150 by violently dropping it. I vividly remember one guy who literally tossed the 30lb curl bar when he was done.

Usually they are the same people with horrible form and yanking weights in the first place... for that I'm just biding my time waiting to see some serious injuries. So far the worst I've seen is a bicep tear (extremely painful by the way!). There isn't much they could do that would require me to render emergency aid...

The guys at my gym found a way around that. Massive tissue rolls and spray bottles of water and detergent mix. Cheap as chips and the most hygienic option in my opinion.
