Just curious if anyone else has noticed this trend where some gay men equate their masculinity with the Republican/Conservative mindset. I've noticed it's often men from small towns. My guess is since most of the men they idolized as kids were conservative, they grow up thinking they can't be masculine and Liberal. I've also noticed they are not able to talk much about politics without repeating Rush Limbaugh or Palin. Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated.

    Dead on!
I see it all the time.
Gay guys who come from an environment where they were taught to believe that being gay = being feminine - (WHICH IS TOTAL BS) - often think that if they vote Republican, it will butch them up and make them "less gay".
    IT IS TOTAL BULLSHIT.

Any loser who thinks that voting Repub will make him more of a real man, needs to grow some fucking balls and stop feeling like a pussy for being gay.

Being gay DOES NOT make you more feminine!
And voting Republican DOES NOT make you more masculine!

Does being a masculine liberal make me a minority within a minority? icon_lol.gif

    No way.
    There are lots of us!
Masculine and liberal, and confident in our masculinity.

    Absolutely not.
But, if you're trying to butch up, voting Republican won't do it.
And it won't make you straight either.

I have a lot of guys who assume I'm Republican for some fucking reason, which I find pretty damn insulting. I usually just let them talk and nod my head to get them to spill their ignorance before breaking the bad news to them.

Although, that being said, I am pretty conservative when it comes to social programs, but then so are a lot of people, so that hardly makes me a conservative.

All my views aren't "liberal" either.
I just could never support a party that has done so much damage to our economy with it's failed policies, and that pushes such divisive issues - the way the Republican party has and does.

I think it's because conservative people tend to come off as more aggressive and dominating whereas less conservative people not as much.

That 'environment' is part of gay culture too. Just look how a gay man gets jumped on for saying he's not attracted to feminine guys and told he's self-hating or struggling with internal homophobia because of it. Being gay and feminine has in a sense become a part of the identity for being gay within the gay rights movement.

I think that is part of it
But there are others as well

Education is a factor .... usually the better educated you are the less likely you are to be conservative

Urban living .... the longer you have lived in an irban center the more likely you are to be liberal

Religion .... the more religious you are the more likely you are to be conservative

and there are more as well
Yes there are exceptions but these factors pretty much determine where you are on the political scale

Not at all. I'm slightly more on the feminine side and I'm pretty much categorized by some standards as a "conservative/classical liberal". I know equally as many very feminine "conservatives" as masculine ones. You just have to ask them. Most people just assume feminine guys are "liberal".

I'm a liberal. A social and economic liberal. So I guess you're right.

You are dead on here!! I've noticed the same thing. And loud and obnoxious as hell about being conservative. They think if they yell "I'm a Republican" loud enough, nobody will notice that they are gay.

How did a thread about Gay Republicans become an opportunity to bash feminine guys by proxy?

But we all know the very richest are democrats, so trying to constantly portray republicans as the "rich" vs the "poor" (ostensibly the democrats) is just plain nonsense.

    Warren Buffet

    Republicans
    David Koch
    Charles Koch
    Christy Walton
    Jim Walton
    Alice Walton
    Robson Walton

    Independents
    Larry Ellison
    Michael Bloomberg
