OK so I'm kinda new to weight training. Only been at it 2 months. I was using a protein mass gainer shake but I know there a low carb ones. The advice given to me was that I would be needing the carbs to put on the mass. I didn't really find an increase of body fat, in fact there was no change. I'm just wondering if I will get the same results (or better or worse) if I use a low carb protein....? Any advice? Not really looking to bulk and trim at the same time. I can see how its best to bulk and then cut. Any advice?

Carbs are very useful in providing your body with energy for your workouts. They also help deliver amino acids to the muscles because they raise insulin levels. So you definitely need carbs!

But, before your workout is the most important time for carbs and after your workout is probably second most important. Personally though I would eat a plate of pasta or brown rice before my workout rather than getting all my nutrition from my shake
