Have you ever read someone's profile and it made you feel good and excited b/c this guy seems really awesome? Then you message/IM him and he either never responds or does and ends up being an asshole? icon_razz.gif

What's with all this stuff guys write about being this and that and Life is like this and God and being good, etc??? Or even profiles with poems and all this fluff icon_razz.gif

    False advertising?

What do you expect people to put on a website for potential dates or hook-ups?

"Hi my name is Andrew and in my spare time I like to make jokes about black people, middle easterners, and AIDS. I want to own a real fox stole (head and tail included) to wear in public just to piss off vegetarians. I'm a bitch who gives very little mercy and a lot of the time I'm not a pleasant person to be around.
If you want to check out my blog here's the link: http://takeittakeit.tumblr.com/ "

I'm sure that'd go over well.

That is totally not funny, cause you are intolerant racist. What goes around, comes around. I bet it wouldn't be funny if YOU have aids. Geezicon_confused.gif

    LOL. ADA, that's funny.

OP, whether someone responds to your IM/email or is a complete asshole towards you doesn't mean they were falsely advertising. It just means that they probably weren't interested in you.

People tend to be themselves towards people they are interested in mostly when it comes to interactions online.

You're reading "fantasy" profiles and seeing "fantasy" photos--which are probably at least 95% of what's on RJ. I can never understand that. If gay guys who misrepresent themseves on here and elsewhere were commercial companies advertising their wares, the Federal Trade Commission would be all over them for unfair and deceptive trade practices.

Agreed. Most of times, people write what they think they are or want to be. But the internet is still a somewhat impersonal medium, therefore don't have high expectations, seriously.

Well.. There is a lot of real people here, who might not answer just because they're not interested... but if someone puts on his profile that is cool to everyone and then turns out is just an asshole... well that is false advertising...

Still, what would u expect from a Gay Fitness web site, by definition there will be a lot of shallowness, closet personalities, fears, insecurities, jealousy... I'm not saying everyone, but still a lot of people, let's face that... All that stuff will lead to fake advertising, anything from false profile pics to self descriptions that are far from the real deal...

Again as I said... there's still a lot of real people who are actually nice... if u stumble with an asshole or if someone doesn't answer... fuck it..! you'll meet other people who actually worth your time instead of wasting it with a fake ass dude...

IMO, people fill in the blanks with good things when it comes to the internet. They see a few words in a profile, read a few posts, see some pics and think they are getting to know someone. That's just not real.

Agreed. You really don't know start to know someone until you have met them in person for months. Even then, I've learned you can never truly know someone unless you are a telepath, even if you've been dating for say years. Only can try to build trust and understanding as best one can.

When a guy puts things in his profile like 'all around nice guy', 'personality is more important than looks', 'down to earth', 'sweetheart', 'looking for ltr not hookups', most of them really believe it about themselves whether or not some or most people that meet him think he's an asshole. So it is not false advertising. It's kind of like a pizzeria that has a sign that reads, "Best Pizza In Town". False advertising is using pictures that are not of you or saying you're an astronaut when you are really an accountant in a windowless office.

Like all false advertising, it's about creating a good facade, whether or not it's the real thing. I mean, Andrew Christian(?) makes underwear with a padded butt and enhanced crotch. Sure, someone will be able to pick up a guy for the night; but, what happens when the pants come off?
