If Christianity was first he religion of a jewish sect... who thought they had met the messiah... than that makes Christianity rather interesting as it later became a religion for non-jews as well... that actually makes no sense at all considering the original meaning of the "messiah" for the ancient jews

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1372741/Hidden-cave-First-portrait-Jesus-1-70-ancient-books.html

Note: i'm only making historical speculations... Im a non-believer of any religious doctrine... I see it as myths based upon and adapted from important historical events and/or folk stories...

Surely ALL religions are based upon faith and trust in God?

And, in fact, if you really boil it down, you can just follow the doctrines taught by Jesus as a way of life - simply by "Doing Unto Others", "Loving your enemy" etc. Even if you don't believe in God, great inspiration on how to live your life and relate to other members of the commonwealth of creation!

Hmmm doesnt really matter what its called though.. the point is the belief was first a jewish one and later was changed and adapted to suit non-jews, as it does today

It was actually pretty hilarious. They thought the end of the world had come and went out to fight huge armies, thinking invisible angels were on their side, but not before leaving all their scrolls and records in the caves.

Koolaid still tastes good 2000 years later.

(PS, how's that "no making graven images" commandment holding out?)

Well, it wasn't really changed or adapted. It's the same message. It's just that, as it says in the Bible, the Gospel was first for the Jews and then the Gentiles. Which is pretty much the way it happened. Since Jesus was a Jew and most of his early disciples and followers were Jewish and he started preaching in Jerusalem. However, it was eventually to spread to the rest of the world(Gentiles). The message didn't change but the Jews and Gentiles had different struggles with their interpretation of the message. The Jews coming from a legalistic background and the Gentiles coming from a Pagan/hedonistic background. That's why Paul had to address legalism in Galatians and hedonism in Corinthians. People interpret messages in different ways based on their cultural and religious background but that doesn't change the original message.

Not really, the messiah is a jewish principal and was meant to save the jews from their enemies.. not save the whole world from sin.. that was a later reinterpretation and is by definition fallacious if you stick to the source (which in itself is just a folk story anyway, so why bother with it, i think)

HA, in a way I dont hope so... I certainly doubt it is actually JESUS on there as I dont actually think the mythical jesus existed as is (no historical records for it, only scripture and folk myth).. to me it looks like a lion's head and it the inscriptions would be interesting to decipher.. if they are forgeries, that would be sad, a little less stuff to study about our ancient past

I'm interested to know the difference as I don't study religion with much depth or interest. Would you please explain the difference between the "belief based on faith and trust of God's word" and a religion?

New articles are also showing up that God's wife Ashera was written out of the Bible. It must have been some kind of divorce settlement thing.

O they are actually comletely different... ancient religions and a few modern ones (hinduism, buddhism and tribal religions) do not make it a requirement to believe the ancient stories at all... religion there is not based on faith, but on traditions and rituals that serve as a cohesive cultural phenomenon that keeps people of the tribe together.... this aspect is still seen in modern politics and these religions, for instance, when in India villagers may enter a fight and one side of the village no longer speaks to the other.... the other villages who may have lost access to their former temple and idol will simply make a similar idol at the other end of the village... where there was first only one idol for the whole village, now there are two, and people worship based on political affiliation with other members
