However, men married to non-working partners receive a larger wage premium than men married to full-time working wives. It is further shown that married men feel less satisfied with their financial situation as compared to their single counterparts. These results indicate that a lower level of pay satisfaction induce married men to put more effort into their work, which leads to higher wages.

I honestly thought that the conclusion of the study would have been they put in more hours to escape the wife (I know several men who will work any hours needed to escape a crappy home life.)

Single men are too busy investing time into enjoying the fruit of their labor. Married men just work nonstop till they die. Or retire late for 5-10 years then die.

the reason why is because they assume that a married heterosexual couple will have children.

Those children will add to the population of the country and thus be valuable assets (army, doctors, teachers, anything that will benefit the country).

Now, following that train of thought, it would be logical to give married men more money.

They will need to pay and take care of many more things.

They also have their wife to support them, but many wives do not work so essentially a married man works and feeds a family whereas a single man only needs to worry about himself.

This is a Eurpoean(Germany) Study so it does not really apply here. I doubt if it would be the final data would be the same if this study was done state side.

Well don't hang me for generalizing, but in general a person willing to take on a lot of responsibility will earn more money, and typical high earning married men are not afraid of the extra responsibility of marrying and having a family. The wife and kids and a home for them is a great motivator.

Single people don't have all that responsibility nor the motivators of married men, so they tend to only go for what they themselves need, which is definately less than what the typical 4 member family needs.

Not always, some married men can't get pussy. I guess they are the statistical exception?
