Besides his famed residence as center square, I loved Paul Lynde as Uncle Arthur in Bewitched.

Yeah, he was a funny man...but a nasty drunk, too!! He was in Toledo back in the mid 70's and I had backstage tickets to his show. I met his so-called traveling companion and we both hit it off right away.
After the show, this guy and I headed back to his hotel and had just started having a good time when the phone rang. Seems Mr. Lynde had managed to get himself arrested for disorderly contact and being drunk in public. He had tried to crash the lesbo's party and was turned away. So, Mr. Lynde, being totally wasted, created a big scene, smashing out windows in the woman's house...and the police came and that was the end of my good time for the night.

Hard to be gay in a world that won't accept you. That is probably the cause of this.

Paul Lynde was genuinely funny, and an early out guy.

At the same time, regarding Hollywood Squares, the celebrities were prepped before the show about the kind of questions they would be asked, so they could prepare witty answers. It wasn't as spontaneous & impromptu as it appeared. TV is all about illusions.

Yes, they got the questions in advance but funny is still funny, and that delivery. My favorite Lynde quip:

Host Peter Marshall: "Why do Hell's Angels wear leather?"
    Paul Lynde: "Because chiffon wrinkles!"

When he was on Matchgame he always made me blank my blanks laughing. Sad to say we now know.......Hollywood Squares was scripted back then and Paul's punch lines were already written out.

I know about Paul Lynde because he was the inspiration for American Dad's Roger the Alien. icon_biggrin.gif

    OMG!

I love Paul Lynde! He's a hero of mine! Even as a kid, I thought he was hilarious.

Bragging, I impersonate him and it's fun.
