It depends on your routine - which exercises you're doing, diet, etc.

Building the body will take time so don't be concerned if you are not making progress too soon.

How long have you been working out now?

If your profile reads correct a 49" chest and 34" waist at 215# for your height would make you very muscular imho, not stocky.. are you sure you got those numbers right?

A lot of people WANT to do a lot of things. The most important thing I think you should do is make a list of your goals, plans, and expectations... then plan accordingly. I've talked to a lot of people that have wanted to get into shape, but either didn't do anything about it, fell off the track along the way, or was not doing things right like a healthy diet and different exercises.

If you WANT to do it... then DO it.

In order to be a bear, you have to have hair!

    Hey Bud!

I'm right there with you... well maybe more stocky and less beefy.

So really I'm on a three-way attack to get to be a muscle bear:

    1. eating all my veggies, whole grains and lean meat, and eating fats sparingly.
    2. On gym days I do 20 min cardio to get my heart rate up, then I to heavy weights, 6-9 reps targeting failur at rep 8 or 9. when i can do 10, I up the weight - your basic muscle mass building routine.
    3. I commute by bike, or spend a large part of my work day walking, and a 'fat burning' burning pace.

    My favourite treats:
    - a sauna after every workout, when practical.
    - sushi with with white rice once a week (the rest of the week any rice I eat for carbs is brown (sweet, long grain, short grain, basmaiti...)
    - a pint or two with fries and a burger at happy hour once a week.

I'm there with you. It's a slow and steady process. Right now I'm working on trimming down a little more. But also want to add muscle and strength. Yay musclebears! haha
