This gives a pretty good snapshot of the arrogance and disdain the elite, effete liberal politicians have towards our military veterans and servicepeople. Both disgusting and illuminating.

    What insult? "Caustic?"

There was no insult in what Moran said. The vet was filibustering, given his time to speak and then as Moran tried to respond, he kept talking.

There was nothing elite or effete about it.

Also, a 27-year veteran of the military should understand that the party in power (Republicans) decides the legislative calendar, not one Congressman, who is using his time off to speak with his constituents.

The veteran's question was legitimate, and for Moran to say otherwise was both untrue and offensive.

It wasn't a question. It was a prepared speech. Just like all the folks bused into the healthcare reform town halls. I'd need to see his dog tags to even believe he was a veteran. And given that Republicans were holding up funding the government to prevent poor women from getting STD tests, I think we have bigger fish to fry.

His question asked several times "Why did Congress let this go so far?" That is not a question?
The other question, with the US having to borrow money from the Chinese, why do the Democrats insist on non-mandatory items such as NPR and Planned Parenthood?

His question should be posed to John Bohner, House Speaker, who a) controls the legislative calendar and b) is too afraid of the Tea Party to agree to the compromise on the table.

Further, the Chinese hold about 11% of out debt, so let's not overstate that. And the money we have borrowed and continue to borrow pays for the wars started by the previous administration, not the few million that go to NPR or Planned Parenthood.

End the wars and let women have pap smears.

Anyone else notice how many edits there were in that FAUX news report?

What amazes me about this is that Republicans like socalfitness are so desperate for an issue, they are clutching for straws.

After all, this impasse is as much if not more the fault of the Republicans in Congress than it is of anyone else.

And this Veteran, who has a distinctive "Joe the Plumber" vibe, was absolutely caustic. Does he have a right to be? Absolutely! But it's just such a curious thing that the problem he has is taken up not with a politician who is actually on vacation...the problem he has is with the politician who is meeting his people.

A politician who, I suspect, attempted to answer his questions several times, only to have the angry veteran talk over him.

And of course, it's not like the Republicans, when they had all the power, did anything to demoralize or mistreat the brave men and women of the military, right?

Well, there was that attempted pay cut in 2003: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0814-02.htm

And then Dubya denied veterans health care benefits in 2005 by shortfunding it by billions of dollars that were needed just to keep up: http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/5315

And of course Dubya also cut more than a billion dollars from military housing: http://www.cafemom.com/journals/read/1359925/What_George_Bush_has_done_for_soldiers_and_veterans

Oh, and since we're talking about soldiers who are stationed in some of the most dangerous areas on the planet, you gotta wonder why at the same time Bush was fighting for a big Wall St. bailout, he also fought against a less than 4% pay raise for troops in 2008: http://thinkprogress.org/2008/05/23/military-pay-cut/

Ah, but none of that made Faux News, so why would you know anything about that, socalfitness?

Oh, I understand what you're doing: the Republicans are at least as responsible as the Democrats for interrupting the flow of money to Federal departments...and you want to, in the normal sleezy Republican way, use an altercation that has been edited for content to characterize it as something it isn't.

What is disgusting and illuminating is that while a Democrat had the balls to hold a town hall meeting, all those Republicans were apparently too busy on vacation to meet their people.

Enjoy your workouts socalfitness...but make no mistake: it is your Republican scumbags who are holding up the government and forcing this impasse in order to try and force their agenda on the party that technically holds the most power in Washington: the Democrats!

Conveniently forgetting the months Congress should have passed the budget when the Democrats had significant majorities.

Ummmm........the guy was acting like an asshole and being insulting. If he wanted to be treated with respect he shouldn't have been so inflammatory.

And this is exactly the crap I had in mind when I posted this thread last week..... http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/1474269

    Well said.
If you want to be treated with respect - you need to be respectful of others.
If he served - he should have learned that.

Stupid fucking disabled veteran....what he said WAS CAUSTIC. Caustic is not necessarily bad, it's just "biting in wit." It was an ambivalent compliment. The title of this thread is misleading and gay, gayer than herpes.

Coming from a 22 year "disabled Veteran".
The guy wouldn't shut his trap and listen to the answer the Congressman was trying to give him and was never afforded the opportunity to complete. If it was me, I would have told him to shut the fuck up too!
He was too stupid to know that the negotiations were being held by THREE, count em, THREE people.
    Obama, Boehner and Reid. Period.

The guy may very well have been a plant. The Republicans do that a lot, from callers into radio shows, to phony reporters at Bush press conferences, to non-resident agitators attending local political meetings, at times armed. And some people have the hypocritical audacity to call union members thugs!

But I might have challenged this "disabled veteran" by asking to see his Veteran's Administration (VA) picture ID plastic card, with "SERVICE CONNECTED" indelibly imprinted on it, along with a matching bar code and magnetic strip. Only an honorably discharged veteran who is declared officially disabled as a direct result of his or her military service can have one of those, regardless of the number of years spent in uniform. Becoming subsequently disabled from other non-military causes following discharge doesn't count.

I have such a card myself, BTW, which any RJ member who meets me in person is welcome to see. And I presume TropicalMark has one, too, and can verify what I've explained about them.

But even if this guy is a genuine disabled veteran, from this Congressman's home district, he was out of line, and obviously there to disrupt, not to pose serious questions. Whether his own idea or put up to it, I smell a set-up, like we've seen before from the Republicans.

And where does it get full coverage on TV, with a hostile interpretation slandering the Democratic politician? Take a guess... And what RJ members promptly seized on this dubious report, and defended it as fact? Take another guess... icon_rolleyes.gif

When there is a good possibility of wrongdoing on the democrats part in this case a liberal democrat insulting a disabled veteran, you extremist liberal hens will do anything to distort the facts to cover up the possible wrongdoing because it is a demoquack that is under the microscope.

Oh shut the fuck up. There is no insulting in this video. It's the most obvious grasp for straws that Socal has ever posted.

Christian73, an very angry extremist liberal hen who is having a temper tantrum over the liberal demoquack being under the microscope and questioned for his possible insults towards a disabled veteran. Cry me a massive river that rivals the Mississippi in size.

I usually listen to both sides of any argument. I have agreed with Mocktwinkie on things, and Christian on others.

But the "Arrogance and disdain the elite, effete liberal politcians" is so unnecessary. That is one things that caused that thread about Republicans thinking that they are more macho because they are Republicans.

Hey, I know it was overly dramatic. I did it mostly to poke fun at all the drama I see from the other side. You know, anytime someone coughs on the unfavored network, Fox News, many of the RJ members go into a dramatic feeding frenzy. Often when others and I post something using moderate language, a typical response from one in particular is to label it "TOTAL BS, DELUSIONAL," and many of the other responses are not much better. My normal nature is to be low-key and use moderate language, but given all the drama here, thought I'd have some fun stirring things up a bit.

Conveniently forgetting the months when Obama and the Democratic Congress were trying to WORK WITH REPUBLICANS because that's what America wanted!!!

And what did the Republicans do? Throw a hissyfit about "Obamacare," and try to stall and be generally disagreeable!

But hey, if it makes you feel any better, that pissed me off about the Democrats as well...they should have brushed the Republicans aside at every turn and did EXACTLY what the Republicans had done during their majorities under Bush: whatever the fuck they wanted!
