A complicated question.

    Hey everyone.

So yeah the last 5 months haven't exactly been a breeze.

More or less, I basically spent the last 5 months between the hospital, taking meds, and not really being able to control my diet and exercise.
Obviously, I gained some weight, about 8 KGs, and that's probably not counting any muscle I have lost. It could be more. I'm 20 years old btw.

Technically speaking, I'm much healthier now so all of that was still worth it.

But yeah I really want to go back to the way things were before fitness-wise, but I have no idea how I'm supposed to start.

I used to work out 3 times a week with weights and twice a week with cardio and I followed random workout plans.
Eventually I was introduced to this site and I started the 12 week
muscle-building workout. I changed direction half-way though and ended up following the 12 week strong and lean one. It was more appealing to me. I stopped half-way through that when I was suddenly hit with those medical issues.

Anyway, do you guys think I should go back and restart that workout program, or should I do a couple of weeks of "re-initiation" before I jump headfirst to lose those kilos.
More importantly, can I rely on newbie gains now? I worked out for about 5 months consistently before I stopped. I'm not sure if I should just lose weight first. I want the muscle but I don't want to be big.

Thanks for any insight you can offer. icon_smile.gif

First, I would make sure you are doing a routine that you enjoy. If you're feeling unmotivated at all, I think it's the most important to pick the things that will keep you on track. If you love to run, run. If you love soccer, play soccer.

Since you are worried about the weight gain, I would focus on cardio to drop weight and also do some weights (lower weight, higher reps) to keep your muscle tone. Diet is key, of course. 5-6 small meals a day.

When you say "taking med" - for what, may I ask?
