Boehner and his fellow Repubs were on the wrong side of the issue - according to public opinion polls that came out a right before the Friday deadline.
Even Karl Rove warned the Repubs to back down.

Boehner and Co. quickly flip-flopped on their "no compromise" position and caved at the last minute.

Boehner has a temporary reprise, but that's all.
It's just a matter of time.

The monster that the right-wingers created (AKA - the "Tea Party") - can be kept calm and under control for only so long.

Did you guys read where Bachman and Paul are having fits over Boner giving in. Bachman particularly is upset over not getting further limits on a womans rights and on not being able to defund Obama Care. I get Emails from her site and now she's saying Boner came down from 100 billion in his compromising. That damn bitch cannot get anything straight without stretching facts into fiction.

    Yup.
    Here are the gory details.

Boehner is in for a world of pain.

    The OP is exactly correct.

Everybody who was anybody said that the Republicans would get the most blame if the government shut down.

The Republicans threw their entire "Family Values" agenda into the budget, thinking that the Democrats would pass any budget rather than let the government shut down.

Obviously, at the last minute, the Republicans realized that the Democrats had given all they were going to give, and they were serious about not giving any more.

    The Republicans blinked.

From what I read, they extended the budget for ONE WEEK ONLY.

Boehner had to use all his bargaining chips to get the Teabaggers to agree to this deal.
He's got nothing left to bargain with in the bigger tougher budget fights to come.

The bill is thru the end of the fiscal year..

The one week only deal is the one Obama threatened to veto. Its dead.

Bingo! We haven't seen anything yet. The battle's to come will make last week's budget showdown look like a kiddie cartoon in comparison. This is going to get really nasty, and I don't think either side is going to gain anything, and probably both sides will lose the little respect Americans have left for either party. The time has never been more ripe for a solid Independent candidate to sweep in to the Presidential race and blow both parties out of the water.

Thumbs up to your last sentence and I'll use a common southern statement for emphasis. "I HOPE HOW SOON" !!!!
