What do you do if your Underwear fits your waist but not your thighs?

I like to wear briefs mostly, or square-cut fitted hipster trunks, and I find that the ones that fit my waist are often cutting into my thighs.

Like the ones I have on at the moment for example, are a really nice C-In2 pair, but I've just been to the loo and they have left red rings around the tops of my thighs (although it doesn't hurt).

Anyone else have the same problem? What do you do - go a size larger than you normally would, so that it doesn't fit your waist? Are there any brands in particular you recommend that are more comfortable on the thighs? I don't really want to wear boxers or longer hipsters, especially going into summer. I was considering making a cut in the leg holes but am a bit worried they will fall apart. Shall I just bite the bullet and accept that I'll need a Large size to fit my fat ass?

I liked Adam+Eve underwear--it's Pima cotton and has a lot of give, but pretty expensive (I particularly liked the Mini Undershort). I havent' found any Adam+Eve underwear recently. I think the name has been changed to "Adam."
