Why do some people think that you automatically reach maturity with a certain age? While it's true, you may reach physical maturity, emotional maturity takes a different route sometimes. icon_wink.gif

...overused, generic terms that are all too often used as a derisive term....especially in the gay community toward anyone over 30.......icon_rolleyes.gif

Maturity is just a phase you are going through.

Agreed, Will. I know 20 yr olds with more maturity in their left pinkies than some of the 50 yr olds I know.

I think some gay men have their emotional maturity stuck at a certain age : kinda like emotional arrested development!

Omg! XD Hehehe. Malefeet man, I'll have to visit ya when I'm in Vegas. A friend of mine loves to have his feet cared for. Next time we go up! Hehehe. Yes, maturity... It comes in different forms and sometimes no matter how "mature" we feel or even I feel I am at times, I find out just how young I really am and how much I have yet to grow.

Yup! I see this quite a bit.

It's sad - especially with some guys that don't come to terms with their sexuality until later in life, it seems they are emotionally stuck at a much younger age sometimes.

It's because some older men want a reason to think they are superior to young men so they use the false "I am more mature than you so you have to listen to me" crap.

Obviously that is false (since a young man can possess a mature mind).

    ----

The term they are looking for is wisdom.

Older men are more wise than younger men but it does not mean they are more mature.

Wisdom and maturity are two different terms in my opinion. You can have experienced many things, but if you don't learn anything from those experiences, then you haven't matured.

That is why when some old man says "I am more mature than younger men" you can say "No... you are more WISE than younger men, but not necessarily more mature"

Meh... wisdom is just applied knowledge and experience.

You can be 55 years old and still have neither.

IMHO the only thing that comes with age is a better perspective on life and the events you face, which is quite easily mistaken as maturity, or explained away by those who can't make pretty with the words.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidI learned from an early age that chronological age has nothing to do at all with maturity. When I was in my twenties I was drawn to men in their forties but there were quite a few of them that were incredibly immature and codependent, etc.

I totally agree with this. I've met some younger guys that are amazingly WAY more mature than some older men.

    Absolutely, especially in this community.
