So about 2 months ago my aunt called my house and asked me to help my cousin come up with a project for his schools technology fair. He had not been doing his science homework on time and she wanted him to participate because the top 5 projects get an automatic A in the class.

He's in 5th grade and there is this girl in his class who is rude and smells like bugles. Her father is on the board of trustees for the school so all the teachers lick her ass even though she is the spawn of satan. She told my cousin during lunch that her father was an engineer so she was going to win and his project was going to be "a big gay epic fail." He's kind of shy because he used to be over-weight and so he's sensitive to stuff like that. So I was like.....lets put her in her place.

For his project we took an old door, some steel fans, two gas powered leaf blowers a car battery and some copper pipes and pond liner and made a hovercraft. I went with him to his school on the day of the Tech fair to help him operate it, but i didnt talk to anyone or explain the project at all he had to do all of the talking. I did help kids on and off of it and monitor the rides for safety.
Needless to say it was the coolest project there, and all the other kids and parents and teachers etc. loved it.

The evil little girl had a remote control helicopter made from a kit that she had purchased online, and her dad was with her HELPING HER THROUGH THE PRESENTATION. her poster board was just photocopies of the instruction manual on how to build the damn thing. Epic fail.

At the end of the fair she won. Me and a couple of other people were upset and asked how the judges decided that. They made up a whole lot of different answers but regarding my cousins project they said they felt he had too much assistance and didnt have complete ownership over the project. When i pressed them they said they didnt think he could have done the manual labor of building it himself.

That girl didnt build it herself either, and she had no idea what the fuck she was talking about. I did help my cousin build his project but what kid didnt have people helping them. All those projects involved curcuits and soldering irons..............come on now.

Anyway, Today i was talking to my friend who is in college but who's sister goes to the same school my cousin does. She has heard me tell this story over and over and so today she sent me a message on FB with a link. The message was titled dont get mad.

The link was to and E-copy of the schools 2011 summer magazine (the kind private schools use to beg for money.) They did a huge article on the tech fair and the girl who won.

Problem? The article never mentions what her project actually was and There is a huge center-fold of this licentious whore riding my cousins hovercraft!!!!!!!!!

I'm writing the principle a letter now. I want that shit reprinted. icon_mad.gif

Private schools are mostly political. The smart kids, the star athletes, the ones with parents who contribute the largest sums of money all get treated like royalty. There are no lengths that the administration won't go to to make sure that that type of kid is a whopping success. They are the republicans of the school system

If you're an average student, your parents work hard just to send you there and can't afford to make large donations, and you don't have any athletic ability you're pretty much shit out of luck. Your cousin obviously had the best project there, I'd say fight it, but the only way they'll really care in most instances is if you threaten to rescind your million dollar donation for yet another facility they don't need, or you threaten to yank him out of the school and send him to their rival.

I say demand that they name a building after him.

Let 'em have it. I would say just keep in mind what residual effect this might have on your little cousin at school. Go about the right way and with the right intentions. Personally, I think you should go to the school board in NY and have her disqualified.

It makes it look like that little bitch built the hovercraft and she didnt. Shes on there with her hair blowing in the wind and shit, making the air smell like gasoline and bugles. I just dont like the epic ambiguity of it all. Its very dishonest to me.

That girl needs to be defamed. Although I must admit, as angry as you are, it WAS kind of funny reading the part at the very end about having her picture taken on the hovercraft YOU helped build!!!

I wonder how your cousin feels about all this, geeez he must be pissed.

Aim for the little bitch - she's got a foul mouth on her for a fifth grader "a big gay epic fail" arrogant bitch.

I'd have your cousin go up to her and ask "your own project not good enough for the centre spread" I'd pay good money to see that smug look melt off her face. If she burst into tears, bonus points.

I have to admit, I laughed, more about your commentary than anything else.
I understand you are pissed and I would be as well.

I'd probably send a copy of the article to the local news channel, explain what happened and point out that the school seems to be more interested in "tooting their own bugle" rather than get the facts. The only issue with
taking your criticism public is.. your cousin could be caught in the cross hairs so to speak. I'd have a talk with he and his parents before you proceed, but what happened is really ridiculous. I'd be mad too.

Now having said that... you realize your are building an interesting reputation.... one day threatening people for MOTD.. the next pissed at some girl for blowing her damned bugle!!! LOL.

That's why I avoid getting involved in science fairs any more. As far as I can tell, they're pretty much all a hot mess.

I got sucked in once as a judge and twice as a mentor. As far as I could tell, almost none of the students, teachers, or judges (or reporters) had a clue as to what they were supposed to be doing. And it's usually "next week" or "tomorrow" so there's no time to do it right.

And those newspaper stories that come out every year about the little geniuses and their great accomplishments... More than once the university scientist who's experiment they've copied (or just reported) without attribution has had to come forward and "claim back" his work, but that never gets much press coverage.

Sometimes I'll send a few pointers (clues, not directions) by email, if the kid writes directly. Notes from parents, I ignore, although a few of them have paid me hundreds of dollars for analysis that I later learn is "for a science fair project." icon_rolleyes.gif

I really sympathize with you, I really do.

I had attended one very prestigious arts university which the cream of the crop go to.

As some of you may know I recently launched my EchoChic handbags and clutches.....Its conception came from my final year thesis project. I was the talk of the campus and was considered to graduate with a distinction.

    BUT

My faculty disliked me. It wasn't because I was an obnoxious or rude to them but rather I questioned some of their logic (which is extremely flawed).

Anyhow they got even more incensed about the praises I was getting. So when the day came the outside jury members looked at my work....And you know what...They loved it.

Everyone was excited...This was a sure fire A+....Guess what...I got three marks short of a distinction.....

Why. An insider told me that head of my department said something in that I'm egotistical and highly obnoxious....The faculty are not suppose meddle around but why does the head of faculty go into the jury room with them when they deliberate...

I'm long over it but it just goes to show you that politics is everywhere....icon_confused.gif

If he had been made to do his homework in the first place, there wouldn't have been a problem. And, he most likely would have learned a hell of a lot more from that than from watching his uncle do his science project for him.

    Actually, it's just money.

I was the smartest kid in my private middle school.

They didn't care because my parents didn't donate much.

NO offense, OP, but all this could've been avoided had your cousin taken a little initiative and not slacked off on doing his homework to the point where he had to scramble to get an last minute "A". Hate to admit it but the little girl ended up being right so in reality the only one to blame this "big epic gay fail" on is your cousin.

Note that you did say "The TOP 5 projects get an automatic A" so I guess that means besides the little girl who won 1st place that 4 others beat out your cousin since you haven't said whether or not what place he took. Given your rant I'd say he didn't make it in the top 5. Sorry to hear about the girl getting recognized for something she didn't do though. That has to suck.

Maybe next time he won't procrastinate on doing his homework or maybe next time an adult figure will make sure he's doing his homework and turning it in on time to avoid stuff like this. I'm just sayin'.
