dj0393 saidI haven't had a bf yet. I'm only 18 and I think that's still pretty young but I would like to have one sometime in the near future. If you did (or do) have a bf, who initiated the relationship? Gracias!
Yes, 18 may be a bit young for some guys. Not because they aren't necessarily old enough to handle it, but many guys will enjoy their greater personal freedom while still a young man rather than in settling down with just 1 guy. (The same holds true for straight guys and women) By waiting until a little older you also gain more social experience & maturity to help you eventually pick the right guy for an LTR, less likely to make mistakes and get hurt.
Dating at 18 and hanging with your friends, having a BF later in your 20s, and a partner by your 30s is a pattern that works well for a lot of guys. Not a standard rule, of course, with many successful exceptions, and I personally have some as friends, still couples after decades together. But I wouldn't deliberately set out at 18 to find a BF, nor did my friends from what they've told me.
In my case I initiated each relationship myself, except for my late partner, who pursued me instead. But then I was considerably older than you when I came out, a very late bloomer, a former Army Officer accustomed to taking charge of things.
