I haven't watched either in many years, but when I grew up soap operas were on all afternoon. Now few remain and two more will soon be gone.

man thats a blast from past, when my daughter was born i use to work nights and take care of her during day, so i use to turn on one life to live just to keep her quiet for a couple of minutes, then i find myself gettin into the storyline, everything changes

Haven't watched All My Children in ages, but am a loyal fan of the Young & the Restless. The age of the soap is coming to an end and when Y&R gives up the ghost, it will be a sad day indeed.

The Young and the Restless will be the last to go but I predict it will be gone in five years. Unfortunately, daytime soaps are going the way of the dinosaurs.

I agree. I love the Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful, My Mom watched All My Children when I was a kid. I can remember her crying when Jenny was killed. So many fond memories. My granddad loved Another World. He watched it every day, and the day he died, he watched Another World.

Watch out for the huge increase in out of work actors. Most of these actors won't find much work after this. Most of them are good enough to be good on a soap, but wouldn't cut it in prime time or in movies. Soaps and commercials were that one place where a large amount of second-rate actors could earn a living.

I don't watch soaps but I kind of think it's sad to know that they are coming to an end. Where else can an actor play the same character for decades? I imagine it would be pretty tough not working with the same people you've been with for 20+ years.

I suppose these will be replaced by more vapid talk or reality shows. As a kid, summer vacation was for watching soaps and the old Match Game with Gene Rayburn and his skinny mic. "Carl the cabbie picked up blonde bombshell Meredith, and immediately, his blank went crazy. Ahhh..the innunendo of Bret Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly. Good ol' summer memories.

With today's busy lifestyles and with so many other entertainment choices, not having a beginning, a middle, and an end to the story in each episode doesn't work. You can't leave an audience wondering what is going to happen to tomorrow with every show. You can watch a sitcom, talk show, or reality show only occasionally and still be satisfied with the episode.

There are some major studs on both All My Children and One Life to Live, especially the latter. It'll be a shame if they can't find work once both shows are off the air. For the most part, Soap actors are very down to earth and very appreciative of their fan base.
It is a sad day for daytime television. I wish everyone involved, actors, writers, producers, staff, all the best in the future!

I do remember snugglin' with my mom when I was about 8 and watching All My Children. But THANK GOD ERICA KANE IS GONE.

    I hated her. =P

I don't feel anything for the Soaps, nor do I watch them anymore but I do miss those days.

I was almost in tears last night over this. One Life To Live has been a part of my life since my early teens! I grew up with the families of Llanview! I watch it religiously. This is so crushing to me. I cant shake off the bad mood its left me in!

    Bite
    your
    tongue!

I never miss The Young and the Restless. If I can't enjoy the back and forth of Nikki and Victor, there's just no good tv left.

Plus, these past couple of days, Nick Newman has been mostly shirtless and lord have mercy has it been nice.

I imagine that the future for Susan Lucci will be the Lifetime Movie Channel. Let's face it, Merchant-Ivory Productions is probably not beating down her door.

Erica Kane is the Queen of soaps. Her character will be missed. I grew up with those two soaps, watching it with my grandmother. My mom still watches it on DVR after work. Now, she won't have anything to watch but her korean soaps. icon_sad.gif
