How do you see the World?

Life is what you make of it. Yesterday, I dealt with a friend who talked about how terrible his life is, how he felt nobody appreciated him, he hates school; nothing made him happy anymore. This made me start to think about how my life wasn't that different than his, but I see the world in a completely different way. I'm called naive, immature, amongst other things... but this is how my World looks.

Life is like some of the best Disney movies. Everyone has their own version of the beginning, where life is hard, the world stacked its cards against you, and you feel all alone. Nobody seems to notice you, or if they do, its not in a positive way. But then something happens. You cross an imaginary threshold in life, and you begin your spectacular adventure. You begin to meet new people, and make friends who appreciate you for exactly what you are. These friends are exactly the people you need to make it through your journey. With courage of conviction, and a strong sense of self, you keep pushing on. Finally, you reach a crossroad, with several different directions you can chose from. It is at this point you follow your heart, and pick a path. On this path, you find joy, pain, sorrow, and hope. And then at some point, when you least expect it, an Angel finds you. They could be your Prince Charming, Cinderella, Knight in Shining Armor; whatever you call them... they are your one true love. Together, no matter what obstacle or challenge you face, you will always succeed, because you have each other.

Life is supposed to have a happy ending. Some people lose track of what's important in life. To me, Life is about the opportunity to experience happiness. Mistakes and sadness are just tools to keep you focused on what is truly important to you. Joy is everywhere, not just in the obvious things that make you happy.

I told my friend that he needs to take a step back and see the Joy around him. Life isn't easy, but its a beautiful opportunity to experience everykind of Happiness, no matter how small. Whether it's in the smile of a stranger's face, A brave flower growing in a sea of grass, The air in your lungs, or in the kiss of the one you truly love. Life is Meant to be enjoyed, Every single last part of it. You just need to know where to look.

(After watching the Little Mermaid, I felt the urge to write... lol)

This spectrum of perception and realism you describe is seen in real life all the time, just amplified during illness. I see sick people at work. Some sick people need and should get all the help that can possibly be given to them.

Some people like others to feel sorry for them. They become disheartened when things don't work out. During troubled times, they stop trying and their whining annoys even their family. I have found that these are the ones who are selfish, who think their pain is all that matters, that they are entitled to satisfaction being given to them. That happiness must come to them.

Then there are others who are very gracious even while in the worst of times and health. They're sweet and self-sacrificial. "It's OK, it's not bad. I can bear it. They need more help then I do." This attitude of calmness is what will get you through the bad times.

It is being around sick people that has given me perspective about my own life and happiness.
