How do I post a photo in a thread?

My question is, how do you post a photo that is not hosted via an external web page? I see the obvious buttons for URL's and "Img", but that just instructs me to insert the HTTP address. Surely there's a way to post a photo directly from your hard drive without making this photo a part of your personal profile photos?

If it is already hosted on a server:

    1. right click on the pictures
    2. click on Properties
    3. copy the URL you see displayed. (it is the web address of the photo you are looking at)
    4. Paste it into the message field of the post
    5. select [IMG]

Now here is the thing I have found: If you capture a space at the end of the URL and it gets includes in the URL designation, the picture will not display.
Take out that space at the end. Make sure the URL indicator frames the address you pasted from the properties exactly.

There surely is a way: run a web server on your own computer. Without a server running on your computer, there's no way anyone can access photos stored on your hard drive.

yourname2000 saidUnfortunately, you'll need to upload that to another service you have. For example, I use "http://flickr.com". It's free, easy to upload to, but it does take a few clicks to find the code to link to the pic. .

It's harder than it used to be, they've hidden the embedding code as they want you to link to flickr instead. You have to use the bit starting http://farm6 & ending in jpg.

What I do is open an account with tinypic.com and build up an album of pics you may wish to publish in the future.
Then select an image you wish to post and select, "Direct Link to Layouts" and on the right side of the mouse click at "Copy". The mouse will store the information in itself until needed.
On your RJ forum post, click at "img". The words IMAGE GOES HERE will appear between the two symbols. Carefully delete the block without deleting the two symbols at each end of it. Then place your cursor exactly between the two symbols and on the right side of the mouse, click "Paste".
A code will appear which will bring up the image after the "Submit" is clicked.
It all looks like hard work, but after getting used to it, it can be done in seconds.

The above photo is of me when I posed at the Golden Gate Bridge while backpacking the USA in 1977. The photo was taken by a passing stranger by request.

There are so many free image hosting services. For quick and dirty uploads, use imgur.com. If you want to maintain an online photo album, you can use Photobucket or Google's Picasa Web.
