Why the ruling has been made. What difference will it make?

What will it achieve nothing. It will only give a few so they will fee, a reason too act badly because they did not get their way. But the people have spoken. If the vote went the other way, and those who lost where still moaning, they would be told to "shut up", the people made up their mind already.

The people of Cal said yes to prop8; right or wrong. It was a democratic vote! Someone had to loose. Time to move on, because with Obama near the end of his time in the White House, you may of received all the change you are going to get for some time now. sad in many ways all you got was change in your pockets.

I don't understand why you always want to put your input into American politics. You don't live in America and don't seem to fully understand how the system works. The court has already declared prop 8 unconstitutional. Votes do not supersede Constitutional rights. The ruling is going through the appeal process.

I would agree a Non Citizen has just an opinion, and yes it is more complicated then a "democratic vote" We do not have a parliamentary system in the United States.

The people give the government limited powers, and the government can only make laws drawing on those limited powers, regardless of a "democratic vote" or not.

Certainly prop8 grates against the California and US constitution. Relegating it to nothing more than a opinion poll.

You have to admit metta8, its a big mess. It would have been nice if Judge Vaughn Walker just happened to be straight.

I am of the opinion that prop8 was unconstitutional on its merits, but all of these side shows just detract from a victory down the line.

Pro Prop8 camp will claim a conflict forever now.

I really hope (and believe) the appeals court (and eventually the Supreme Court) will rule the Prop 8 unconstitutionality findings written by Judge Walker are based completely on facts and the insults to the laws/Constitution of the United States, as meticulously supported in the text of his findings/ruling.

There is no "bias" in the detailed and supported findings. There was no case really presented by the proponents. There were no "expert" testimonies, only unsupported and admittedly opinion and animus and "I don't know" answers by the proponents in the trial.

Of course the opposition will continue desperately to throw up specious arguments of "bias", "activist gay judge" with something to gain personally (pure speculation on the future, of course), and so on. Just as with President Obama and the birth certificate, then the college transcripts, then....what else? The goal post keeps moving on the part of the anti-equality groups like NOM, AFA, FRC, the Prop 8 supporters, etc.. It's time to call the game for equality.

PS The tapes weren't broadcast from the trial, as blocked by the Supreme Court -- the later viewing of tapes after the trial shouldn't violate that earlier proscription, IMO. The transcripts are public, after all.....a visual version now is really no different!

I don't understand why americans think that simply being an american grants them some special understanding of things. Its quite interesting that US foreign policy has total disregard for other sovereign states and the american public has little or no issue with this.

I would counter that the majority of those in the US have no idea how the system works either.

and before Caslon 72000 comments on me being Cdn, I am dual US/Cdn citizen so I will say what I like regarding US politics.
