I think Jesus took a pee and bled on the cross. He was human, after all.

Too bad Mr. Serrano didn't exhibit the original, rather than just the photograph.

Piss Christ? And a link to attack Christians and protest....
I think this feed has gone over the line.

Would you say that about Islam, Buddah, Jehovah witness, etc.

Jesus Christ, for the biblically illiterate, happens to be the King of the universe. He's the One and only risen messiah. One day soon we wil all bow before him.

This sunday marks the most miraculous day in history: the celebration that Jesus, God incarnate, walked the earth, died, crucified, but rose fro
The dead. A very true story

Let's not attack anyone or anything on rj, o k?
    Thanks!

That's par for the course for brainwashed religious nutters. It's no different than the Taliban destroying those huge statues of Buddha. It's what happens when people are operating on a spiritual preschool level of mental bondage and attachment.

I don't like what that artist did because, as a Methodist Christian, I do find it offensive but I don't really know what to say. I often wonder if he could have done something else to represent the hypocrisy of those who use Christ's name for profit or political gain. But then again, he wanted to get the attention of the world and he certainly succeeded.

Not only that, but attacking it really was not the proper thing to do, in my opinion. However, fundamentalist of ANY religion are not known for thinking before acting.

Personally, I'm so glad that Easter weekend celebrations begin tomorrow night with Maundy Thursday.

*BTW-This is the FIRST time I've ever heard of Catholic fundamentalist!

I don't find it offensive at all. The physical properties of urine vis-à-vis blood is an intricate one, as all nephrologists will tell you, and without one, there isn't the other.
If Christians are so gung-ho on the humanity of Jesus, they should embrace all bodily functions, not just certain symbolic ones like bleeding.
I think Jesus probably had rhabdomyolysis, metabolic acidosis, and renal failure on the cross. The bleeding is but a minor part of how he died.

For his renal failure, we all can pee. That's no small sacrifice.

You bring up an interesting point; something I never thought about. But, that is the great thing about science. Unfortunately, many fundamentalist Christians don't really believe in science, much less consult it to see how things work. Many of them don't care to understand what urine is and how it is interconnected with the human body. They see it as 'dirty' and nothing but an excrement.

And the humanity of Jesus is important because it was how He connected and related to humanity. Unfortunately, those same fundamentalist Christians tend to downplay His humanity at times and focus so much on His return and humanity's destruction. It's as if they have a death wish; THEY want to die and THEY want to see the Earth and humanity destroyed in some cases. This death wish comes from their extreme fundamentalist beliefs.

That credit goes to Mr. Serrano. I didn't make the connection until I heard the news detailed in the OP. A cardiologist will probably have quite a different take on the artwork destroyed.

The power of art is to make people form connections between thoughts not normally done.icon_lol.gif

Ummm.......I posted a news story. I see no link to "attack Christians." And I posted the story to get some intelligent comments about what we consider to be art and what isn't, etc. I don't need you to preach to me about Jesus being "King of the universe", blah blah blah. That's YOUR belief.....not mine. And posting a news story from a major news paper is NOT "attacking" anyone. Good grief.

As far as my own personal opinion about this installation:

I think this person should be able to exhibit this work just like anyone else because that's what freedom of speech and freedom of expression is all about. However, I think it's quite obvious he submerged the image of Christ in urine not as a way of expressing himself, but as a way to offend in such a way as to get publicity. And I feel if you must stoop to that level, your art can't be very good in the first place. A real artist would not have to sink to this. However I support his right to do so.
