people are so quick to make fun of the missionaries and criticize things they do and say. you have to realize, they are 19 or 20 (usually) and just regular guys - they aren't professionals. they don't get paid to go out and do this stuff. they dedicate 2 years of their life away from their regular lives, families, friends, etc.

think of something you know or are passionate about. do you know everything about it? especially a topic so complicated as religion, the bible, or any religious or spiritual book or topic. now, keep thinking of this thing you are good or passionate about. say you are going out and talking to people about it. are you going to meet people that know more about it, a different side of the subject, another take on it, their personal views, a specific piece of info that they know and you don't, etc? more than likely, yes. the problem with missionaries is people expect them to know every single thing and detail. they don't. nobody does. on top of that, many religions contradict each other anyways, and all turn back to the bible to prove their case. the bible gives conflicting information and is a reason a lot of religions and branches of christianity even exist in the first place. that, and early individuals' quest for power.

fine, he said "preach". fine, they didn't know how to argue back with this guy and maybe they don't have all the facts or know the best way to reply back to things, but people don't realize how hard it is out on a mission. walking up to some random person or door, you don't know what to expect. sometimes it's hard to think on your toes and if you slip up just once and say something a little off, then it's all over. people jump all over you.

criticize the church all you want, but i don't like when people make fun of or criticize missionaries. sorry. you don't realize what they give up and go through on a daily basis.

Dunno if that black man is a member of Nation of Islam or not ... but he does seem to know his Bible, even if his discussion style comes accross somewhat arrogantly.

And it looks like he done schooled those missionaries a good bit.

Which is why they're such idiots. Giving up two years of your life to spread some fairy tale story? That's just absolutely retarded.

If you're dumb enough to first off believe that shit, and then take 2 years to "work" in order to achieve... yeah what exactly, then you can expect being ridiculed.

Zadokien saidIf the black guy had stopped me on the street like that when I was a mormon missionary, he would have learned a lesson about respect and humbleness he would have never forgotten. Unfortunately, those missionaries were unprepared and didn't know much. The black guy was right when he said most of the things he said, but the way he spoke was way too far from divine. He was running a contest, not a conversation about a heavenly subject.

Shame on the ones who disrespect other people's beliefs. You can think you are right and still show respect towards the ones you believe are wrong.

    Does not compute.

A harsh judgment. For some, this is their way of becoming closer to their god, by obeying his commands (or such as is relayed from the ecclesiastic power structure that speaks for that particular god).

Much like you might pursue some path to becoming a better human through whatever philosophy, or improving your understanding of the world by practicing scientific observations and reaching rational conclusions based upon evidence and empirical data.

The latter is based upon our limited understanding and ability to perceive things correctly with the hope we have correct data, the former acts on faith in a higher power.

Be at peace with your method of perception, and let others be at peace with theirs:

If those Mormon missionaries have fault, it is with their lack of peace with their methods.

Good grief, I had no idea the Mormons annoy people using bicycles these days! I am familiar with seeing the beach patrol police down here on bikes in pairs, but Mormon missionary patrols?

I do have to wonder what a video camera was doing there at that moment, though. There was at least a 4th person present, with a camera running, when these guys rode up. Why? This wasn't a particularly scenic location at night in which to be taking a video, the parking lot of some kind of fast-food place, perhaps. I'm therefore not sure exactly what we're seeing here, and if any of this was staged.

I expect a 'salesman' to know everything about the product he/she peddles.

    Quoted for TRUTH!

They are the ones who rode up to him asking to teach him, and they had no idea what they were talking about. At the beginning he was trying to let them speak, but they were unable to answer his questions. He has a VERY valid point about the book of mormon itself. I personally don't mind which religion you choose to follow, as i believe it is a personal choice that you have to explore and find for yourself. But i would react very similarly to this guy if someone were to offer to teach me something and had insufficient knowledge to do so.

Side note, we had a knock on the door a few months ago and my room mate answered it. It was a pair of mormons that approached him much the same way. After telling them no respectfully a few times he finally said.. "Listen, i'm queer and i'm catholic, still want to keep talking?" They got real quiet and said "You have a good day sir." I cracked up.

You know i did this back when i was 19 and a Mormon.. It's amazing what all of you just don't understand about missionaries and the culture that is behind all of this. Cut them some slack, most of the time a missionary is just working their ass off doing some type of community service and we do this for two years! Ticks me off when I see guys talking shit about missionaries when in their minds they are just out trying to do some good in the world. What have you done to try and make our society better? Drinking and going to the club do not count!

Interesting setup. The guy that was approached appeared to be an overzealous Christian, to the point of harassing the two Mormon missionaries.

Although I do not believe the book of Mormon is divinely inspired, I think the missionaries should have just said "thank you," and kept on going.

Except these guys didn't know shit. SO they shouuld spend more time reading and stdying, before preaching. I have NO issue, as long as preaching people don't knowck on my door. In public I can jsut ignore it.

Though I gotta say, you have no idea what anyone in this thread AHS done to make the world a better place, so thats a pretty rash statement...

I am very happy that he did that. He stood up for what he believed in, and called the Mormon missionaries out.

Perhaps if they are going to preach something as "important" as religion, they should know all of their facts, regardless of if they have had insufficient training and are barely in their 20's.
