I know Emily hasn't released anything in the past year or so, but she's Canadian and I'm not sure how much radio play she got outside of Canada so I just wanted to post this to let people know about her.

If you haven't heard of her, she's the lead singer of the band Metric, and she's done solo work under "Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton".

I think Metric is one of the best alternative rock band to come out after the millenium, alongside the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Emily Haines is also very beautiful and she's one of the women I would "go straight" for.

The first I heard of Metric was Dead Disco, from their 2003 album Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? which was basically like their debut album:

Referencing Bobby Fuller, their first single from the 2005 album Live It Out was Monster Hospital:

Between Live It Out and her next album, Fantasies, the band broke up and Emily worked on her solo album. During this period she was struggling with a cocaine addiction.

Here's a beautiful video interview of her talking about her first single for her 2009 album Fantasies:

The song that I was listening to when I was inspired to create this thread is Sick Muse from the album Fantasies:

Also notable, they wrote the song Black Sheep for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World:

As for her solo work, her debut album was Cut in Half and Also Double in 1996 under her real name, Emily Haines, but her style was completely different from when she did solo work in 2006 under the name Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton. The songs she did were much slower and sadder than her work in Metric, because she was going through a rough period in her life, as she said in the aforementioned interview.

Doctor Blind is one of the singles from the Knives Don't Have Your Back album, and it's beautiful:

The next year (2007) she released an EP, What Is Free to a Good Home?, before going back to Metric to come out with Fantasies.

One of the best live performers I've seen! All of her projects are awesome and have substance. Glad to see other people recognizing her talent!

I got their Fantasies CD by chance and i liked it, and have seen vids of her shows and they look awesome.
Unfortunately her voice gets annoying after awhile and The Clash at Demonhead did a better cover of Black Sheep.
