I just bought Black Swan and rewatched it again. I saw more layers unfold the second time I watched it. It really is an awesome movie! What are everyone else's thoughts on it? Like it or no? Surprised by the ending?

I'll probably check it out again now that it is available on DVD. I actually was expecting a different ending.

    SPOILER ALERT!!!

I thought it was going to turn out that the mother was really dead like in Psycho and she was a figment of the main character's imagination. The ending the director chose was pretty fitting though given the Swan Lake theme.

It was definitely the best movie of last year and Natalie Portman was awesome as the Ballerina .... who wanted to be Perfect

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Natalie Portman is amazing and Mila Kulis is divine. Great movie and setup with a great ending.

I thought it was incredibly directed and acted. It was a climactic ending! I loved it!

I think Natalie Portman could have explored her dark side in ways other than her sexuality.

Seriously, two masturbation scenes, the one scene with Mila Kunis, and then she's molested by the director like 5 times. Yeah, she did drugs once and she started ignoring her mom, but were those really that bad?

    SPOILERS
The ending was retarded. How did nobody notice she's running around on stage with a huge fucking shard of glass in her abdomen? I also didn't like how they didn't have any mention of whether or not she survived and they just left it sort of ambiguous.
    /SPOILERS

All in all, if I wanted to watch a 120 minute softcore porn featuring women, I would download it for free from the internet, not spend $11.50 on a ticket to this piece of crap.

    I hated it.

Only plus was the acting. I do like Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis; both of them are very talented actresses.

Zettabyte. Sounds like you missed the point or rather didn't feel the movie if you can easily relate it to soft porn.

I think it was a good movie, but mostly because of the intensity given by the music. Take the music off and it would not be as good, in my opinion. Well, certainly the actresses were excellent, but the story line is basically the swan lake story.
What was good though,it was you didn't know until the end that most of the scenes developed (gladly) in her mind. I was glad she didn't actually beat her mum, that was so awful!
The music, and the dancing... excellent. When she moves her arms as wings, it's amazing (Well, I think it wasn't Portman, but whoever was, was amazing!) icon_biggrin.gif

Well, I was in shock the entire movie, like ->icon_surprised.gif So, I maybe missed it.
When I saw her mum in the audience, I didn't see any damage on her. Now that you say this, I will have to check again haha

Ok, I checked. Unless she's got healing powers, she shouldn't be in the audience looking so good and proud at the very end icon_razz.gif

    Horrible Movie.

I mean the acting was good. Mila and Natalie both did their characters justice. But it was boring and convoluted.

Annette Benning should have won the Oscar for Best Actress for The Kids Are Alright. That was a magnificent performance and conveyed with such depth.

It was also the best movie of the year.

    xx

The music and dancing were phenomenal. It was pretty awkward to see with friends, however, but it did have a very powerful plot.

I do not understand all the drama with Portman not actually being the one dancing - granted she and others lied about ballet training but for those who are/have been part of the dance world it was pretty obvious from the start that Portman could not have been trained to perform like that in that time span. I just figure this takes away from the movie...but that's okay considering Portman has graced the movie screens for so many recent films haha icon_eek.gificon_lol.gif

Sounds like it just wasn't your cup of tea, so to speak. That's fine, but it's it being a little harsh to call it "just plain stupid?"

I thought it was brilliant myself...but I found it sufficiently disturbing that I don't really want to see it again for a long time.

I think the key is, Nina is descending to the depths of mental illness, and thus it's hard to follow because mental illness is very complex!

You can take everything literally, and your mental state will almost descend the way Nina's does...or you pick up on a few queues here and there, and realize you have to think about just about everything in order to determine if something is real or not.

Natalie Portman definitely deserved the Best Actress Oscar...but I think that Mila Kunis deserved to be nominated for Supporting Actress, and I really think Darren Aronofsky should have won Best Director over Tom Hooper!

Agreed on all accounts, man. There's really more to the movie than just some ballet dancer who's shy. Also guys, in a recent article, the director states Portman did 85% of the dancing in that movie. So I give her props! She trained for a long time and it paid off.

    Great movie.
I would have prefered a better ending though. When it ended I was a bit disappointed. But the movie made me think a few days afterwards, which doesnt happen often.

i would also agree. "just plain stupid" ---WTF??? clearly you have no ability to appreciate real films with real messages.
i actually liked the ending. it kept the story line cohesive enough- it made sense- but it was also quite disturbing. i think she deserved to win her award. to the guy waaaay up there in the forum ^ of course she died. she had to kill herself to achieve pure perfection.

    I love Black Swan.

    SPOILER ALERT.

The first time I saw it I thought Lily was conniving, but after watching it a second time I realized Nina is just mentally ill, and Lily is actually trying to be a good friend to Nina (minus the part where she slipped X in her drink).
